Diving Board Removed At Dormont Pool

This article was updated June 28 at 10:26 a.m.

The diving board at Dormont Pool was removed Thursday due to an issue with the borough's insurance policy.

Borough manager Jeff Naftal said the borough received notification from its insurer that the diving board is not covered under the borough's liability policy.

In an email to Dormont-Brookline Patch, Naftal said there used to be three diving boards of varying heights at Dormont Pool, but they were removed when they fell into disrepair.

Council got a variance in January 2011 to put a new diving board at the pool; however—because the water depth was not adequate for the size of diving board chosen, per the county's code—the variance specified that the borough needed to have adequate insurance coverage.

Naftal said the insurance carrier was never told that the board didn't meet the county's code requirements. During a review of the borough's insurance policy, which involved Naftal, county officials and the insurance company, the variance was brought to the insurance company's attention.

After determining that the borough does not have adequate insurance for the diving board, the insurance company requested that it be removed.

The borough will evaluate it's options on the matter, according to a statement on the Dormont Borough Facebook page.
