ReplyAlso agree that i would shop A LOT more on the Boulevard if the stores were open until 9. I don't get home until about 7 if i have to work late. I try to get up there still as much as possible.

ReplySeveral years ago, around 2004 or so, business man bernardo Katz had bought up many of the buildings and promised to revitalize beechview. For some reason he pulled out and screwed them - ran off to the tropics somewhere leaving many of his properties in foreclosure. That certainly didn't help beechview's current plight.

ReplyLooks like the only person from Brookline was some 25 year old woman. It was heroin and marijuana. No "hispanic" involved, two men from Garfield and Beltzhoover, respectively. Truly a shamearticl said they on many levels. The are all in jail now, at least.

So let me get this straight. You go and park at a metered spot (obviously rendering it unusable for another vehicle to occupy this space while you are in it), don't put quarters in the meter, get a ticket, and then complain? I don't get this at all. My husband came home the other day and announced he would never go back to Party Cake Shoppe to buy a loaf of bread again. I asked why. He replied "Because they gave me a ticket!" and i said "Party Shoppe didn't, why would you punish them?" He was silent, so then I said the same thing to him that I said at the beginning of this post. You can't blame anyone else for this ticket but yourself. You should go park on a side street if you don't like it (he did come home with a loaf of bread from PCS yesterday, so he must have taken it to heart).

ReplyGreat to hear! Mad Mex, whether technically a "chain" or not, feels like a chain to me. Although I do think it is ok, I would love to try the local Mexi-Casa and will make sure to do so in the near future.

ReplyMaybe we could raise some money to help the owner's update their storefronts in some kind of unified manner? Not to curb creativity, but just a few guidelines in place to make sure it doesn't get "tacky" and that the boulevard is sort of presented as a unified front to make the whole aesthetic better? Some fundraisers, maybe? It had occurred to me to ask someone about having a brick fundraiser, where the local families/business buy a brick for some of the areas that are being bricked, and have their name engraved in it. Then take the money to help make the boulevard even better! I was going to try to head it up myself, but not sure who to contact to see if it is even possible. I, for one, would be happy to buy a $25.00 brick with my last name on it!

I agree, Ed, I feel that the mural is a little washed out - even a color update would help it. There is definitely a thin line between washed out and tacky though, so maybe it is better to leave it alone??
