Erin, any reason you're letting Mike's infantile insult calling another poster a Xenophobe stay on this site? You have deleted far more comments for saying far less than that. You just deleted comments on another thread for even mentioning the word race, I would think that you would like to be consistent. Just pointing out facts.

ReplyWhoa...amberlee, I don't see a single comment about race until yours. "you people"? What is that? You people??? Really? Anyone dealing heroin is trash, I see comments about the drug dealers being trash, but until your absurdly racist comment there was NOTHING here about race. You're the only racist on this thread that I can see, and obviously a poorly educated one at that. Your diatribe is a joke, and so is your racist attitude. Maybe you don't think heroin dealers are trash. If that is the case, you are no better than them. The only thing correct in your ridiculous post is the first sentence, and you prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt.

On the Blog Post Revitalizing Brookline - Major Hurdles

ReplyJason and Bob, you are both right about Beechview. Sadly, there will be no revitalization for Beechview like the one being undertaken by Brookline. I believe that Brookline can be revitalized, but there doesn't seem to be much that can be done about Beechview. I lived in Beechview for a year back in the early 90's, and live in Dormont (where I grew up) now. The difference 20 years can make! Beechview seems beyond repair at this point. It was starting to get bad when I lived there and has gone so far downhill that it doesn't look like it will change for the better. Brookline is a different story. There are still plenty of people that care about their community enough to want to bring it back to the "glory days," but too many people with nothing invested in the community in Beechview (including landlords who couldn't care less about the types of people they move in) have made it what it is today. I have hope for Brookline though. I do hope that the recent interest in revitalizing the community makes a difference.

On the article Patch Poll: Should Marijuana Be Legalized in Pennsylvania?

ReplyI also think its funny that people blast jaylew and accuse him / her of politicizing this thread then go on with their own liberal propaganda. And it's the same people that tend to ruin plenty of other threads. They always blast someone else for having a different opinion than them and never seem to have facts to back up their opinions. I need to stick to the local stories about Dormont and not read this tripe. Even the good threads get ruined. There had been some good posts at the beginning of this thread. Thank you, intolerant fools, for ruining yet another thread.

ReplyTypical thread. It started out about the legalization of marijuana, now it has devolved into pointless banter about "Democrats vs. Republicans" like just about every thread on Patch
First, there were inane and uninformed opinions about keeping pot illegal, now its inane and uninformed opinions about politics having nothing whatsoever to do with the original question.
"Nothing to see here." Time to do something more productive than read this thread, like watching paint dry or ice melt. It's just as well. Not one coherent or fact-based argument against legalization anyway.

ReplyYou make some excellent points. Your main point is in fact the biggest problem; the hours that the businesses keep. Everyone does need to pitch in and work together to make it happen, but I doubt you'll see many (if any) landlords do their share. But I think realistically the hours the stores keep is their biggest problem. And your point about the "young upstarts" couldn't be more accurate. Everyone wants something more but no one is willing to do anything. And that goes for a lot of areas, not just Brookline. I would love to see the boulevard get revitalized, but there seems to be a lot to overcome. It's a shame.

I have yet to see any articulate posts against legalization. At least not a single one with any facts.

Ed, your "argument" sounds a whole lot like "I know you are but what am I" to me. And comparing using a substance to a violent act like torturing animals is clutching at straws. Like I said before, nothing you said, not ONE part of your "argument" has any merit whatsoever, none.

Paula, your arrogance on this subject is off the charts. "Not everyone is college material"...? How about people whose circumstances don't allow them that opportunity? How about someone who doesn't want to waste their time (and a new house worth of money) going to school for four years to do something that these schools train them to do in a much shorter time? How about those trying to better themselves? And the fact is, learning these skills can provide someone with an opportunity to make a very comfortable living. The dumbing down of America, as you put it, is an insulting phrase to use for anyone who has done these jobs, attended one of these schools or supported someone who has. What an arrogant post. It's certainly not "setting the bar low" as you said. Has it ever occurred to you that some people may be passionate about the things they can learn in these schools and programs? What an insulting post, and a completely elitist and arrogant attitude.
