Thirteen was a lucky number for one Mt. Lebanon couple expecting a new child. Tiffany and Josh Duffy welcomed their newborn son, Connor Edward, at 13:13 (military time) on 3-13-13 at St. Clair Hospital. He weighed in at 6 lbs., 8 oz. "That is going to have to be his lucky number," Tiffany Duffy said. Asked by the hospital staff if he was going to play the Lottery on Wednesday night and use 3s and 13s in the numbers, Dad replied that he talked with a relative out in Las Vegas who was going to put some bets down for him. The hospital sent us this wonderful photo of the expanded happy family. We wanted to share it with you. “We just thought it was kind of interesting how all the 13s lined up for this family,” St. Clair Hospital spokesman Bob …

Dormont blotter, Dec. 28 to Jan. 4.
A man was arrested on numerous charges after he first called the police for assistance, then allegedly refused to let them help. According to the report by Dormont police, Austin Deaver, 27, of Dormont called police at 12:15 a.m. on Jan. 1 and reported that his girlfriend was unconscious at his apartment in the 3200 block of West Liberty Avenue and needed help. Police said when they arrived at the apartment, they found a bong-type device. At that point, according to the police report, Deaver told the police to leave the apartment and attempted to physically stop the police from getting to the woman. Deaver was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstructing …

The baby is named after family members who came to America on the Mayflower, according to Dad.
Alden William Johnson was the first baby born in 2013 at St. Clair Hospital. Alden arrived at 8:26 a.m.—four days after his due date—and weighed a whopping 11 pounds, 3 ounces. "It's exciting, 1-1-13, it's definitely memorable. It's totally not what we were expecting," said Alden's father, John Johnson. "The nurses were excited, too. Especially with him being such a big baby." John said he and mom, Jessica Johnson, might have been a bit more nervous than the average first-time parents. They are both nurses. "Well we know more than most people, so we get nervous. But everything went well. No problems," John said. John and Jessica have been married for five years and were neighbors as they grew up in Washington County. They now live in the …

The flu season appears to be starting earlier than usual this year. Find out what a St. Clair Hospital doctor says you can do to protect yourself from the flu.
The flu season appears to be starting earlier than usual this year, according to a doctor at St. Clair Hospital’s emergency room. Dr. Emily Brown said she’s seen an “uptick” in the patients coming to the hospital with flu-like symptoms over the past couple of weeks. She estimated there have been 70 cases so far, compared to none by this time last year. “We’ve definitely seen an uptick in the number of patients being diagnosed with the flu,” she said. “The flu season was just later in the year last year. We’ll see if it’ll be worse, or if it’s just earlier.” There is no shortage in the flu vaccine, so she suggested that everyone get a flu shot this year. The best time to get it was in the fall before flu season began, she said, although it’…

Hmmm not sure who that would be. How long ago was this? I'm sorry you had a bad experience though. I know the owner and his wife, and they definitely treat their regulars well. I'd rank it as a bar inbetween Slapshots and Cains, so you definitely get a mixed crowd that can stir things up. We just mind our own business, but I understand where you are coming from. I think it's a certain group of …   more ›
