EXTENDED: Connor Road Pothole Patching

PennDOT work is scheduled for a 1.21-mile stretch.

Crews from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0 will cause temporary lane closures and restrictions on Connor Road from Mondays to Fridays, Oct. 15 to Nov. 9, due to pothole patching. (UPDATE: This project has been extended for Nov. 13 to Nov. 16.) The work will occur in various locations across all of Connor—specifically, from its Route 88 intersection in Castle Shannon Borough to its Route 19 intersection in Mt. Lebanon. Mixed Reactions as 51-88 Plans Revealed

Jughandle will eliminate left turns. Some residents want more done to curtail flooding.

Apparently, $15-$20 million will only get you so far. A large intersection improvement project coming to the Route 51-Route 88 junction with that price tag will accomplish a lot of things—a left turning lane onto Stewart Avenue, a jughandle around Rite Aid, and more—but, as Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11 Executive Dan Cessna said, "This is not a flood improvement project." Make no mistake, though: Cessna and Rosanne Rodgers—project manager for PennDOT contractor SAI Consulting Engineers—made it clear at a public meeting on Wednesday that their project will take some steps to lessen the possibility of flooding at the popular intersection. Nearby Roadwork Could Affect Dormont, Brookline Residents

Work on Banksville Road and Route 88 could affect Dormont and Brookline residents this weekend and next week.

Nearby road work happening this weekend and next week could affect Dormont and Brookline residents traveling through the area. Banksville Road work continues this weekend, July 20 to 23, weather permitting, and could affect residents in Dormont, Mt. Lebanon and the City of Pittsburgh. Single lane traffic will occur from 8 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday on Banksville Road between the Parkway West (I-376) and Beverly Road. One lane will remain open in each direction. The passing lanes will be closed. Crews will be milling and paving and installing mountable curbs.  In addition, short-term closures and traffic stoppages may occur on side streets. Connor-Rte. 88 Work Starts Monday

The project will improve a bridge over Port Authority rail lines.

Traveling south from Dormont and Brookline? You might want to keep an eye out for road work on Connor Road, at the intersection of Route 88. Work to improve the bridge that carries Connor Road over Port Authority of Allegheny County rail lines on the border of Bethel Park and Castle Shannon Borough will begin on Monday night, July 16, weather permitting. Crews will replace an expansion dam and conduct concrete deck and approach repairs on the bridge that sits at the intersection of Connor and Route 88 (Library Road), according to a news release from Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0. Route 88 Traffic Delays This Week

Traffic delays will take place in Castle Shannon the week of May 14.

There may be delays on Route 88 in Castle Shannon between Sixth Street and Connor Road the week of May 14, 2012. Castle Shannon Borough will be hanging Military Banners, to pay tribute to those that are and have served in the Military. A description of the Shannon’s Soldiers/Hometown Heroes program, sponsored by the Castle Shannon Revitalization Corporation, can be found at the Castle Shannon Revitalization Corporation website. This extension of the program expands the banner postings to Route 88 from the north to the south borders of the borough. Roadwork on Route 51, Route 88 and Provost Road to Start in January

Short-term lane closures will start on Monday night and go through mid-March.

Short-term lane closures around the popular Route 51-Route 88 intersection in Pittsburgh's Overbrook neighborhood will start on Monday night, Jan. 16, and last through mid-March, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0. Crews will be performing research operations needed for utility location verification as part of a future improvement project at that intersection between Saint Norberts Street and Stewart Avenue on the border of Whitehall Borough. Restrictions will occur nightly as needed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Work will also occur during the day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but that work will not impact traffic. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect possible delays.

UPDATE: Missing Woman Found in Castle Shannon

WTAE reports that missing woman Verna Hreha, 82, was found in Castle Shannon.

WTAE is reporting that Verna Hreha, 82, of Jefferson Hills, was found Wednesday evening during a traffic stop in Castle Shannon. Hreha, who had been reported missing, was seen Tuesday afternoon at a business in Bethel Park. She was last seen in Swissvale early Wednesday morning, asking for directions. According to WTAE, police officers in Castle Shannon pulled over Hreha's silver Hyundai Elantra after receiving reports of an erratic driver on Route 88.
