If you're looking for an outdoorsy kind of dog, someone to take hiking or hunting, stop by the Animal Rescue League in Pittsburgh to meet Todd! He's a 4-year-old coonhound mix who came to the shelter as a stray. He's a strong boy with a ton of energy, and seems unaccustomed to being leash walked. The shelter workers don’t know what training Todd has had, so some basic obedience classes are recommended. Anyone with previous dog experience would be best for this fun and lively guy! One-year-old Sherlock was brought to the shelter as a stray.

This little guy is Sherlock, a one-year-old Rottweiler/Terrier, Pit Bull mix who was brought to the Animal Rescue League shelter as a stray. Shelter employees say he is friendly dog who loves to play with toys and be around people. According to the Animal Rescue League website, he knows some commands and would be best suited for an owner who can continue working with him on obedience training. Say hello to Fran! This dog is a 4-year-old miniature Poodle mix who was surrendered by her owners after they could no longer take care of her. She's a little overwhelmed by the shelter, but employees say she’s been very receptive to being held and stroked for her pictures. Small dogs and poodles in general tend to get adopted very quickly, so Fran might not be spending too many days at the shelter. Long Island Pup Needs a Long-Term Home

Trigger is currently at a shelter on Long Island, but his adoption and travel fees are covered for anyone who adopts him—anywhere in the country.

Trigger has been at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter on Long Island, New York for three years. He is a 4-year-old pitbull mix that shelter volunteers say has been looked over time and time again. There are more than 200 dogs at the shelter, and Sept. 11 marked Trigger's three-year anniversary there. According to employees at the shelter, he is a gentle dog who wants nothing more than a home of his own. Trigger knows commands and is very responsive to training. Those at the shelter says he is gentle with taking treats, loves to play ball, and also loves attention that people give him. Pets for Adoption: Meet Weezy

This 5-year-old kitty needs a place to call home.

Meet Weezy. This 5-year-old domestic short-hair mix is described by volunteers at Animal Rescue League as sweet and gentle and “happy to lean into a good ear scratch—even to a complete stranger." When volunteers checked her microchip, they discovered that she had been adopted from the ARL a few years ago and was brought in again when found as a stray. Volunteers said they hoped she wasn't homeless for long, but said she is clean and well-fed. Weezy is also said to make new friends fairly easily. Say hello to this big, loveable dog named Diesel! Diesel is about a year-and-a-half-old and is a Rottweiler mix. Workers at the Animal Rescue League where Diesel is staying noticed he is very calm and walks great on the leash. He walks at the pace that you want to walk. Diesel is good with other dogs, seems mostly house trained and knows the sit command. He has an occasional accident. I've personally interacted with this dog on a number of occasions and can't speak enough to how wonderful he is. He is so lovable, gentle and loyal. If I had the space and the funds to take care of him, I would. He deserves a good family and a good family deserves him.   more ›
