I’ll ask some holiday questions in the days leading up to Christmas. Share your answers in the comments!
Holiday question of the week: What’s the best gift you’ve received? This is a tough one for me to answer. Is the “best” gift something I received recently, or something I got as a kid? The Best Gift Ever distinction probably goes to the dollhouse my dad built when I was in preschool (although I don’t remember if this was for Christmas, or a birthday, or a random Tuesday). The best gifts as a teenager were the cassettes, CDs, records and MP3 players that started my sprawling music collection. The best gift I received last Christmas was my Garmin, and the best post-Christmas gift was its replacement (because—on its first use—I dropped it and broke the screen). What’s the best gift you received, at any age? Tell us in the comments!

Holiday Question of the Week: What’s your favorite holiday movie? Mine is “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” I’m a life-long Charlie Brown fan, and it’s just not the holiday season until I catch this movie on television and hear Linus explain the meaning of Christmas. There are a few close seconds though. “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” and “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” (1964) are classics I look forward to each year. To the other extreme, I’ve seen “A Christmas Story” so many times that I could do without it this year—although chances are good I’ll end up watching it anyway. Everyone has a favorite—or least favorite—holiday movie. What’s yours? Tell us in the comments!

Holiday Question of the Week: What’s your favorite holiday decoration? Mine is a snowman bobble head, as pictured. My parents got me "Bob" the bobble head as a Christmas present 10 years ago. He was a year-round addition to my bookshelf through college, and now he graces my coffee table from November until roughly February. Even on a bad day, this silly snowman makes me smile. Not only is it just entertaining, it’s also my oldest surviving Christmas decoration, aside from a tree ornament I’ve had since I was born. I think everyone has a decoration like this. It’s the one you pack in extra bubble wrap each year. It's the antique you’ve had forever, or the goofy one you just bought. What’s your favorite holiday decoration? Tell us in the …

Saturday’s festivities set the mood for a bright and jolly holiday season.
Getting into the Christmas spirit was easy Saturday night, as Light Up Night festivities lined Brookline Boulevard. Cannon Coffee served up hot chocolate, cookies and other Christmas treats throughout the evening. A couple doors down at Melissa Distel Photography, Santa stopped by to discuss gift-giving and pose for pictures with the kids. Brookline Ministerium coordinated a live Nativity scene in front of Brookline Presbyterian. Christmas carollers added spirit to the event-and a petting zoo added some humor. Check out our Light Up Night photos – and feel free to send us your own! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, everyone! Dormont’s Light Up Night will be Saturday, Dec. 3.

Black Friday shoppers descended on malls everywhere yesterday, but in Dormont, a different venue was getting all the attention. The Hollywood Theater hosted Ian Petrella, who played “Randy Parker” in the classic Christmas film “A Christmas Story.” Petrella said he enjoys touring smaller towns, and has had the best audience responses in the midwest and eastern parts of the country because those towns seem similar to the movie setting. It’s always fun to meet the people who helped make the film such a success, he said. “It’s interesting because we went, we made (the movie), and kind of nothing came of it after that,” Petrella said. “It’s kind of like summer camp, the way I remember it. It’s a bizarre thing to go through sometimes.” Hollywood…
