Former Ruth’s Chris Manager Comes to Franco’s

Larry Stakes became the operations manager of Franco’s in Dormont on Jan. 1, and he’s working to ramp up the location’s reputation as a neighborhood favorite.

Patrons at Franco’s Trattoria might see a familiar face in the establishment’s new operations manager. Larry Stakes, a Dormont resident who has been the general manager of Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse for the past 18 years, became the operations manager of Franco’s on Jan. 1. The restaurant is still under the same ownership, but Stakes will oversee operations for both the Dormont and Peters Township locations. Stakes said he embraced the opportunity to manage Franco’s because the restaurant is one of his own favorite local places. “This was one of my favorite restaurants anyway,” he said. “I live right around the corner, and we’d come up all the time.” “In the restaurant business, you always have to change and be relevant,” Stakes said. “I look…

Dormont Restaurateurs Discuss Cochran Plan

Two West Liberty Avenue business owners discuss how they feel about the proposed project.

Discussions about an expansion plan proposed by #1 Cochran are under way, and local business owners are voicing points of both concern and support for the proposed project. Restaurants and other businesses in the 3200 block of West Liberty Avenue could be affected by #1 Cochran’s proposed plan, in that there could be changes to public parking arrangements if the plan is approved. At this stage, the proposal has not been approved by Dormont Council, and is still in a discussion phase. Have You Tried Katana?

Dormont has a new restaurant. Have you been there yet?

One of Dormont's newest restaurants is now open on West Liberty Avenue, and we're wondering what you think of it! Katana, which offers both Chinese and Japanese cuisine, shares the 3200 block of West Liberty with favorites Cain's Saloon and Franco's Trattoria. Steering Committee Will Participate in #1 Cochran Discussions

Dormont Council voted Monday to form a committee to assist the borough with decision regarding #1 Cochran’s development proposal.

A steering committee of Dormont citizens, business owners and a local church will be formed to assist Dormont council members in a discussion of #1 Cochran’s proposed development plan. Dormont Council voted Monday night to form the committee, which would include business owners in the area near the Cochran Nissan location on West Liberty Avenue, citizens living in the area, and representatives from Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. “I know there’s once again been some rumors circulating, but we have not sold, traded or even talked to Cochran about their proposal,” said council President Bill McCartney.
