A winter storm that could bring several inches of snow is expected to hit the Pittsburgh area Tuesday night. The National Weather Service has upgraded its advisory to a winter storm warning that runs from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 5 p.m. Wednesday. The weather service expects 5-to-8 inches of snow in this area, while even heavier snow is expected to fall in the Laurel Highlands of Fayette, Westmoreland and Somerset counties. The South Hills of Pittsburgh and other areas south and east of the city could get up to 8 inches. Neighborhoods west of Pittsburgh are expected to get a little bit less. A winter storm that could bring several inches of snow is expected to hit the Pittsburgh area Tuesday night. The National Weather Service issued the advisory that runs from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 7 p.m. Wednesday. The heaviest snow is expected to fall in the Laurel Highlands of Fayette, Westmoreland and Somerset counties. However, the South Hills of Pittsburgh and other areas south and east of the city could get 4-to-6 inches. Neighborhoods west of Pittsburgh are expected to get 2-to-4 inches of accumulation. NWS issues a winter weather advisory for Friday morning.
It might not be snowing yet, but Dormont and Brookline roads could get a little "slippy" come rush hour. Freezing rain and ice accumulations of about a tenth of an inch are expected on Friday, and in our area, that rain/snow mix will start around 9 a.m. Rain is expected through the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service, and temperatures will hang in the mid-30s. The National Weather Service warns of hazardous travel conditions because of ice-covered roads. Winds of 5 to 10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph are also forecast. The storm could affect morning rush hour traffic.
There could be very little rush to the Monday morning rush hour. The National Weather service in Pittsburgh has issued a winter weather advisory from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday for most of Western Pennsylvania, including Dormont and Brookline. A mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected overnight into Monday morning. Because very cold ground and snow pack, roads and sidewalks are expected to be icy. Get ready for some snow and cold temps!
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect in our area for the weekend. According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh area—including Dormont and Brookline—is under an advisory from 6 p.m. tonight through 6 a.m. Sunday morning. The area is expected to get 2 to 4 inches of snow. The first snowfall is expected to occur tonight, Friday, and will make untreated surfaces snow-covered and slippery—1 inch of accumulation is expected. Tonight's low will be 29 degrees. The second snowfall—occuring early Saturday into Saturday night—can add up to 3 more inches of snow accumulation and be accompanied by gusty winds. Winds could gust as high as 28 miles per hour. Wind chills of close to 0 degrees are expected by Saturday night. …

A word to the wise: Be careful out there today. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory through 6 p.m. for the area—with between 3 and 5 iches of snow expected by tonight. Flakes are expected to begin falling around 10 a.m., with “areas of blowing snow possible.” And that weather may snarl traffic, so exercise caution on your daily commute to and from work, or wherever your travels take you today. “Dangerous travel conditions are expected due to quickly falling temperatures icing over roads followed by strong winds and snow showers,” the National Weather Services indicated on its website.
