'Elf' and 'White Christmas' Showing at Dormont's Hollywood Theater

Dormont's Hollywood Theater has a lineup of Christmas movies on the marquee this week.

If you're looking for something to do with the family this week, Dormont's Hollywood Theater is showing a few family-oriented Christmas movies. Today, Monday, Dec. 24, the theater is showing "White Christmas" (1954) at 2 p.m., followed by the new Christmas classic "Elf," the 2003 film starring Will Ferrell. "Elf" starts at 5 p.m. The lineup repeats on Wednesday, Dec. 26, with the same movies at the same times. Hollywood Theater is closed on Christmas Day, Dec. 25. 'Rocky Horror' This Weekend at the Hollywood

If you're burned out from the holidays, Hollywood Theater has a couple movies this weekend to take your mind off of it.

If you're up to your eyeballs in wrapping paper and candy canes, Dormont's Hollywood Theater is giving you a chance to step away and enjoy some non-holiday movies Friday and Saturday. Today, Friday, the Hollywood is showing a special, private screening of "The Quantum Lords: The Trojan Horse." For more info, contact Andrew Wormsley at 412-523-7121 or andrewwormsley@gmail.com. Starting at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, DJ Zombo will spin records at the theater until the 9:30 p.m. showing of "Urgh! A Music War" (1981). "Rocky Horror Picture Show" (1975) will run at midnight. ‘Breakfast and a Movie’ a New Hit for Hollywood Theater

The next Breakfast and a Movie is a Christmas special—"White Christmas—set for Dec. 23.

Christmas is in the air, and Dormont's Hollywood Theater is celebrating with a special Dec. 23 showing of "White Christmas." The movie will be the theater's next event for the Breakfast and a Movie program, a new item on the theater's schedule, and one that has taken off. Friends of Hollywood Theater member Margaret Jackson said she and Heavenly Blumling, who organized the program, wanted to come up with a new way for local businesses to work together. Now preparing for the fourth Breakfast and a Movie, they are confident they've found a hit, so to speak. “We were just looking for an idea that would be nice for the community and nice for the theater, and also easy to do,” Jackson said. “I knew that the Oaks [Theater in Oakmont] was doing …

I went to see White Christmas. The movie was great to see on a big screen. The food was so-so. It was worth the money for the movie ticket, but I will eat at home or go somewhere else to eat prior to the movie next time.   more ›

Hollywood’s Holiday Lineup

The theater is showing a couple of holiday classics Thursday and Friday.

Although Dormont’s Hollywood Theater will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 for the Christmas holiday, patrons have a chance to catch a few holiday flicks before the weekend. An old favorite—1954’s “White Christmas”—and the new classic “Polar Express” (2004) will run Thursday and Friday.
