A Brookline street was a little soggy yesterday, and roadwork continued into last night and today. A reader reported to Dormont-Brookline Patch that an apparent water main break occurred on Pioneer Avenue yesterday, Dec. 4, likely between 3 or 4 p.m. The break occurred near the intersection of Brookline Boulevard and Pioneer Avenue, and crews still are on scene today, Wednesday, making repairs. One the Dormont-Brookline Patch Facebook page, one reader said work on the break tied up traffic and caused her to be late for work this morning. Others shared their experiences, too. A Brookline water line break reported about a month ago still hasn't been fixed, according to a report by WPXI, and residents in the area are upset. The break at the intersection of Brookline Boulevard and Whited Street was reported more than three weeks ago, one resident told WPXI, and although the resident was told someone would be out to fix it, water continues to flow. Residents in the area told WPXI that there is a bus stop in the area and that children have to cross the water to catch the bus. The road is starting to cave in and cracks are widening, allowing more water to run down the street, they said. The break reportedly will be fixed later this week. A water main break left 40 people without water in Castle Shannon on Monday.
A water main break in Castle Shannon left 40 people without water Monday, according to reports by WPXI and WTAE. According to reports, an 8-inch line broke around 6 p.m. Monday evening on Blossom Hill Road, shooting thousands of gallons of water into the air and onto the street. About eight homes sustained water damage and many Castle Shannon residents were without water. Castle Shannon residents are part of the Keystone Oaks School District, which also includes Dormont and Green Tree. According to reports by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and WTAE, repair crews were unsure when a water main break that occurred Tuesday on Banksville Road would be fully repaired. The break was reported around 5:30 p.m. yesterday. According to the Post-Gazette's report, crews worked overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning to repair the break, which occurred near Banksville Road and Wenzell Avenue. Line break on Monday morning adds to traffic headaches on Becks Run Road.
A water-line break on Monday morning near the intersection of East Carson Street and Becks Run Road on the border of north Baldwin Borough has prompted the Pennsylvania American Water Company to ask its customers to conserve water in order to maintain working storage levels. All PA American Water customers in the southern part of Allegheny County are being asked to conserve, especially those in Baldwin Borough, Baldwin Township, Castle Shannon Borough, Dormont Borough, Mt. Lebanon and Green Tree Borough. Residents in those municipalities may experience service interruptions, low water pressure and/or cloudy water.
