Brookline Man Pleads Guilty in Federal Court Case

Kamil Al-Rifai pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of defrauding the state's welfare department.

A Pittsburgh resident pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of wire fraud, according to a report from the office of United States Attorney David J. Hickton. Kamil Al-Rifai, 56, of Brookline, pleaded guilty to one count before United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab on April 24. According to the court report, Al-Rifai defrauded the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare between Feb. 9, 2012 and Jan. 14, 2013 when he misrepresented that his dependent mother was residing at his home in his application for benefits. Sentencing for Aug. 22. The law provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both. Dormont Man Used Neighbor's Internet Router to Share Child Porn

A Dormont man has pleaded guilty in federal court to violating federal child sexual exploitation laws.

A Dormont man pleaded guilty in federal court Dec. 5 to a charge of violating federal child sexual exploitation laws, according to a release issued by United States Attorney David J. Hickton. Richard Stanley, 33, pleaded guilty before United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti to possessing images of child pornography. According to the release, Stanley used a neighbor's unsecured wireless internet router between Nov. 11, 2010 and Jan. 19, 2011 to share the pornographic images on the internet. Sentencing has been scheduled for March 28, 2013, at 10 a.m. Stanley could face a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.
