Dormont police blotter, Feb. 8 to Feb. 14.
A driver whose car ended up on its side after an accident claimed he swerved to miss a deer, but Dormont police said that scenario is unlikely. Police responded to the 1500 block of Hillsdale Avenue on Feb. 10 at 3:25 p.m. after the Dormont Volunteer Fire Department notified them of an accident in which a vehicle was on its side on the sidewalk in front of a Hillsdale Avenue home. The vehicle struck and damaged a retaining wall on the property, and there was heavy damage to the vehicle, according to the police report. The driver, identified as Alan Peace, 29, of Mt. Lebanon, told police he swerved to miss a deer as he was turning from Belrose Avenue onto Hillsdale, according to the police report. Police determined that Peace was speeding …

This accident occurred near the Pioneer-Northcrest intersection in Brookline.
A traffic accident sent a driver through a Brookline guardrail during rush hour Thursday morning. According to reports from WPXI, the accident occurred around 9 a.m. along Pioneer Avenue between the intersections with Northcrest and Southcrest drives. An SUV went through the guardrail, also damaging a tree. Trisha Pittman of WPXI told Dormont-Brookline Patch via Twitter that the accident was expected to be cleared quickly. A traffic accident has been reported at the intersection of Whited Street and Saw Mill Run Boulevard, at the border of Pittsburgh neighborhoods Brookline and Carrick. According to the U.S. Emergency Alerts Twitter feed, @USEmergAlerts, one person was injured in a head-on collision near the intersection. Emergency crews are on scene. West Liberty Avenue has re-opened after a traffic accident had it closed for 12 hours.
West Liberty Avenue has re-opened in both directions. The road was closed Monday between the intersections of Wenzell Avenue/Brookline Boulevard and Pauline Avenue after an early-morning accident. A Duquense Light employee at the scene told Dormont-Brookline Patch the stretch of road was closed after a truck hit a utility pole around 2 or 2:30 a.m. Monday. The employee said no power outages have been reported in the area, but crews were on scene to check the lines. Verizon employees also were on scene. At traffic accident near McFarland Road is causing some traffic backups.
A car accident near the intersecion of Peermont Avenue and West Liberty Avenue is causing traffic delays and backups Friday afternoon. A Patch reader in traffic submitted photos of the scene to Dormont-Brookline Patch. The accident occurred around 2 p.m. and traffic is stalled between Peermont and McFarland Road. Mt. Lebanon police and MRTSA service responded to the scene. Whether there were injuries, and the extent of damage is not known at this time.
