‘Good Guys’ to Headline Dormont Street Fair

The Good Guys Band, made up of Dormont natives and Keystone Oaks graduates, will headline the annual Dormont festival in October.

A band of local “good guys” will headline the Dormont Street Fair this year. The Good Guys Band is Joe Morrone and his son Mike, Jim Hedge and Ed Palma—all Dormont natives and Keystone Oaks graduates, and all happy to be performing at one of their hometown’s favorite festivals. “It’s very surreal for us,” Hedge said. “We played back when we were younger, but I think the only time we played in Dormont was for the Fourth of July at the pavilion in Dormont Park when we were in high school.” Hedge still lives in Dormont, but Palma now lives in the North Hills and Morrone lives in Baldwin. The Good Guys Duo, an offshoot of the band that features Hedge and Morrone, performed at the Taste of Dormont on Sept. 15. Palma, Morrone and Hedge are …

Giovanni's Adds Sweet Treat to Taste of Dormont

The Dormont pizza shop is quickly becoming known for another product—hand-made chocolate.

Every booth at Saturday's Taste of Dormont presented the foods and wines that highlighted the annual event, but one local vendor was drawing a crowd with a new sweet treat. Giovanni's Pizza and Pasta began making and selling chocolate this summer, and the pizza shop's Taste of Dormont tables were lined with colorful varieties of chocolate-coated treats. "One day I woke up and just decided to make chocolate," Turan said. "That's really how it happened. I said to myself, 'I feel like this is something I want to try.'" He is a self-taught chocolatier, and said he …

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry at Taste of Dormont

Fifth annual event showcases local cuisine to raise borough rejuvenation funds.

Looking for a tasty way to spend Saturday night? Drop by the fifth annual Taste of Dormont for an affordable evening of culinary delights. This popular yearly event features delicacies from local dining favorites as well as a sampling from local breweries and wineries. Each participating restaurant will offer two or three dishes. While there is no set menu, history has shown that participating restaurants go all out for Taste of Dormont. One particularly popular seafood dish provided by Cain’s Saloon at last year’s event was gone within an hour. “It’s always a great surprise,” said Joan Hodson, event coordinator and treasurer of Dormont Community Development Corporation. “We don’t know exactly what the restaurants will bring, but we do …
