KO School Board to Call for Reform of State's Charter, Cyber-Charter School Funding

The Keystone Oaks School Board meeting is today, Thursday, at 7 p.m.

The Keystone Oaks School Board plans to discuss, and possibly adopt, a resolution calling for the reform of the state's charter and cyber-charter school funding. The resolution reads, in part, as follows: WHEREAS, the charter and cyber-charter school funding formula in the Public School Code is based on the sending school district’s prior year’s budgeted expenditures per average daily membership, minus certain budgeted expenditures of the district of residence; and WHEREAS, the Commonwealth’s provisions under Act 88 of 2002 to reimburse school districts for students attending charter schools was funded in neither the 2011-2012 nor 2012-2013 school years; and WHEREAS, since the Commonwealth now funds charter school costs to school districts…

KO School Board Adopts Preliminary Budget

The Keystone Oaks School Board adopted the preliminary budget at a special meeting on Thursday.

The Keystone Oaks School Board adopted the 2013-14 preliminary budget at its February work session/special voting meeting by an 8-1 vote. Board member Dan Domalik cast a "no" vote. The preliminary budget is not final, and is subject to change. The final budget likely will be adopted in late spring. The preliminary budget is attached to this article in PDF format. Changes to Anti-Bullying, Transportation Policies on KO Agenda

KO School Board Agenda

KO will make an interesting case study. The new board members promised the world to their constituents. Now it is time to face fiscal reality. You can't continue to grease the squeeky wheel and get out of the mess we are in. It will be interesting to see what the public thinks of this board come next spring when it is time for a new budget.   more ›

KO Board Approves Summer Athletic Coaches

At its June 28 meeting, the Keystone Oaks School Board voted on a number if items, including several that pertained to athletic positions. Several coaches were approved to work during the summer and pre-season at the rate of $20 per hour. All hours must be pre-approved by both the building principal and the Director of Fiscal Services. No Tax Increase in Keystone Oaks Budget

The Keystone Oaks School Board adopted the 2012-13 budget Thursday.

There will be no tax increase for Keystone Oaks residents this year. The Keystone Oaks School Board adopted a budget during Thursday's meeting that does not include a tax increase for district residents. The board adopted an operating budget of $35,383,995 by a 6-3 vote. Board members Joe Finucan, Dan Domalik and Dave Hommrich voted against it. The board voted 5-4 to keep the real estate tax at 22.03 mills for the 2012-13 school year, the same rate it was during the 2011-12 school year. Although a tax increase from 22.03 to 22.47 mills was proposed by board member Robert Brownlee, board members Lisa Cancelliere, Raeann Lindsey, Domalik, Hommrich, and Finucan voted against the tax increase. The SOS board members have their work cut out for them. They will not be abe to deliver on their promises as they do not understand the economic realities facing KO. The board should have raised taxes a modest amount just like USC so that they can keep pace with rising costs. Or bight the bullet and close a building which despite what is claimed by SOS will save money.   more ›
