Daria is described as a sweet and trusting dog.
Daria is a 5-year-old Mastiff mix in need of a loving home. She has survived years of extreme neglect. "This sweet and trusting dog is most deserving of a special home. Daria's incredible spirit and resilience is evident after hearing her sad story," according to the Animal Rescue League. Daria was kept as an outdoor dog somewhere in Beaver County. She managed to escape the home and came back with an eye injury, a possible result of a dogfight or cruel person. Her owner panicked and instead of bringing her to the vet, left Daria at a shelter tied to a water spicket. The owner later called the shelter anonymously and said Daria lived with older kids in her former home and was good with them. She also is said to be generally house trained. …

Adopt this sweet 4-year-old miniature Poodle mix at the Animal Rescue League in Pittsburgh.
Say hello to Fran! This dog is a 4-year-old miniature Poodle mix who was surrendered by her owners after they could no longer take care of her. She's a little overwhelmed by the shelter, but employees say she’s been very receptive to being held and stroked for her pictures. Small dogs and poodles in general tend to get adopted very quickly, so Fran might not be spending too many days at the shelter. If you're interested in her, stop down to the Animal Rescue League to meet her. If you'd like more information about her, please call 412-661-6452 ext. 215. This guy needs a home to enjoy his senior years.
Jasper is one of the older dogs at Animal Rescue League in Pittsburgh in need of a home where he can enjoy his senior years. He was surrendered, but the shelter doesn't have much background information on him. He does appear to be house-trained and he walks nicely on leash. Jasper is almost 8 years old and therefore is a calmer, more settled dog. He also doesn't need the same level of exercise as our younger dogs, which may be a plus for some people. If you appreciate the qualities of an older dog, stop by and meet Jasper. For inquiries about him, you can contact Sue at adoptadog.pgh@gmail.com. Jasper's adoption fee is $55. Maggie is extremely sweet, enjoys her chew toys and seems to like other dogs. Adopt her today at the Animal Rescue League of Pittsburgh!
This pretty 3-year-old girl is Maggie. Her owners surrendered Maggie to the Animal Rescue League of Pittsburgh after two years because she didn't quite feel comfortable with the small children in the home. Nevertheless, this pointer-mix is extremely sweet, enjoys her Kong chew toy very much and seems to like other dogs, too. Maggie was also crate trained and knows sit, stay, down and lay. However, she's not fond of felines, so a cat-free home would be ideal. She’s also is a fan of going outside when it rains. Based on her behavior in her previous home, Maggie should live in an adult only home or a home with older children. It does take her time to warm up to strangers, but loves people once she feels safe. We think she'll love curling up …

A column about a dog with more than a lot of heart.
Sam is sweet. The sweetest. He is resilient. He is strong. He has the biggest heart. Sam is a survivor. Sam is so many things that words just cannot describe. He’s inspiration. On a recent trip to volunteer at Hello Bully, a local organization dedicated to repairing the reputation of the pit bull while at the same time rescuing some of the animals from dog fighting rings, I had the amazing opportunity to get into Sam’s kennel for some cuddle time. Sam was wagging his tail delightfully, curling up into my lap as best as he could. Despite being a prisoner in a dog fighting ring for five years, despite being let down and abused by so many human beings—Sam was happy to see me. As we worked to clean Hello Bully’s Halfway House, located in the …

This girl needs a home. Can you help?
Tallulah is a very friendly 1-year-old who is a good bet for first-time dog owners. That's because she is so sweet and tolerant. She would benefit from obedience training to help her become a super-pet, but she is already a good dog. We also found that Tallulah is good with other dogs. She is playful, and loves to play with toys. If you would like a dog who is good with people as well as other dogs, come and meet her today. If you'd like to inquire about this pet, please call 412-661-6452 x215. Tellulah's adoption fee is $115. Follow Dormont-Brookline Patch on Facebook and Twitter. This girl needs a forever home. Could you be her new owner?
This one year old pit mix is Peppy! Peppy is happy to have a second chance at a great home! As her name suggests, Peppy has lots of energy and likes to be active, but she's also a sound sleeper who loves to cuddle. She rides well in the car, walks fairly nicely on a leash, and appears to be house trained. She loves to get out and meet new people, as well as other dogs, and she definitely loves playtime! Peppy is very attentive to her handler, listens well, learns quickly and makes great eye contact. Peppy already knows the command for sit, and she is eager to learn other new skills. She recently went on an overnight stay with one of Animal Rescue League's volunteers, and was perfectly behaved the entire time. Peppy is a sweet, fun girl who…

This friendly girl has had a hard time finding a home. Can you help?
Minnie is a friendly 7 year old Pit/Bulldog mix who first arrived at our shelter in March. She had lost her home of 6+ years because her family was moving and could not bring her along. She lived with kids in her past home and was great with them. Minnie also is friendly toward cats but we feel she would do best as the solo dog in the home. She was an indoor dog who was not crated in her prior home and was reportedly well-behaved in their house. She also walks pretty well on leash. Minnie was adopted a few months ago but recently surrendered at another shelter and then transferred back to the ARL. There was no specific reason given for the surrender but those owners did describe her as a 'loving, wonderful dog' and had no behavior issues …

This cute girl is looking for a new home.
This adorable girl is in need of a new home and currently is living with the Hello Bully family. Isis' previous owner recently died of cancer. Hello Bully is an organization based in Pittsburgh that works to rehabilitate the image of the pit bull, while also aiding in rescue missions. Here's what Hello Bully has to say about Isis: "Earlier this year, we were contacted about a pit bull in need. Isis had a home—her owner Dave was battling cancer and living in a home hospice care situation. Dave wanted to be sure Isis would have somewhere safe to go when the time came. In mid-April, we drove to Mt. Washington to meet Dave and Isis. Dave told us on the phone that he was so happy we were going to do what we could to help him. He said it gave …
