The Pittsburgh Penguins first playoff game will be tomorrow, Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m. The Pens clinched both home ice advantage and the No. 4 seed in the upcoming NHL Eastern Conference playoffs—they defeated the New York Rangers, 5-2, Thursday night. On Saturday, the Penguins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-2, in the regular season finale at Consol Energy Center. The Pens will host the No. 5 seeded Philadelphia Flyers—a team they’ve traditionally had bad blood against. The first and second games will be hosted at Consol Energy Center. Police from various departments across the region will be at CONSOL Energy Center before the Pens game on Saturday, collecting money to benefit the family of Lower Burrell Officer Derek Kotecki, who was killed in the line of duty on Wednesday.
Head out to CONSOL Energy Center on Saturday, Oct. 15, to support those who suit up in gear and uniforms for the sake of the public. Though the Pittsburgh Penguins take on the Buffalo Sabres at 7 p.m. that evening, we’re not talking about supporting the athletes. We’re talking about supporting the police and, in particular, honoring a fallen officer by contributing to a fund to benefit his grieving family. On Wednesday, Oct. 12, Lower Burrell Police Officer Derek Kotecki was killed in the line of duty. The 18-year veteran was shot when he and his K-9 partner, Odin, exited their squad car in the Dairy Queen parking lot along Greensburg Road, where Kotecki had been dispatched to apprehend homicide suspect and fugitive Charlie Post. Kotecki …
