'Jack Reacher,' Filmed in Dormont, to Premiere in South Side

The Tom Cruise movie partly filmed in Dormont last year will premiere in Pittsburgh on Dec. 15.

Pittsburgh will play host to the premiere of a Tom Cruise movie that was filmed in several local communities, including Dormont, last year. "Jack Reacher," originally named "One Shot" after the novel the story is based on, will premiere at the SouthSide Works Cinema on Dec. 15. According to a report from WPXI, Tom Cruise and co-stars Robert Duvall and Rosamund Pike are expected to return to Pittsburgh to attend the premiere, which is the first film premiere Pittsburgh has hosted in several decades. A portion of the movie was filmed on Pinehurst Avenue in Dormont last November, in the home of Peggy White and her family. White talked to Dormont-Brookline Patch last December about the experience of having a film crew working in her house. "…

Film Trailer Released for New Tom Cruise Movie

"Jack Reacher," originally called "One Shot," was filmed in the Pittsburgh area—including Dormont—over the winter.

The trailer for "Jack Reacher," a movie that was filmed in the Pittsburgh area—including Dormont—over the winter, has been released. The movie, which was named "One Shot" during filming, stars Tom Cruise, Robert Duvall and Rosamund Pike. In December, film crews and actors were on set at a Pinehurst Avenue home in Dormont. The movie also filmed in Oakmont, Sewickley and other areas throughout the City of Pittsburgh. Here is a synopsis of the movie plot, according to the Internet Movie Database: "In an innocent heartland city, five are shot dead by an expert sniper. The police quickly identify and arrest the culprit, and build a slam-dunk case. But the accused man claims he's innocent and says 'Get Jack Reacher.' Reacher (Tom Cruise) sees …

Dormont Family Gets ‘One Shot’ to See House on the Big Screen

The White’s Pinehurst Avenue home was turned into a movie set last week for filming of “One Shot,” starring Tom Cruise.

It was a little strange to see trailers emblazoned with “Paramount Pictures” logos lining Peermont Avenue last week. It was even stranger for Peggy White, who had a production crew camped out in her kitchen. White’s Pinehurst Avenue home was the location producers of “One Shot,” a new movie featuring Tom Cruise, chose to shoot a few scenes. The movie is being filmed in the Pittsburgh area. “It’s very cool, but it’s kind of weird to get kicked out of your own house,” White said. “But it’s definitely been a good experience. Everyone who walked through my door was nothing but lovely.” The movie is scheduled for release in 2013. White—who also grew up in the house—said she’s excited to see it on the big screen and add something to the home’s …

Did You Spot a Movie Star Today?

With a production crew from "One Shot" in Dormont today, chances are good you might have taken a peek at the set.

Did a little piece of Hollywood come through your neighborhood today? If you live near Peermont or Pinehurst avenues in Dormont, chances are that it did. A crew from Paramount Pictures is in the area today and tomorrow filming scenes for the movie "One Shot," starring Tom Cruise. Although I'm told Tom isn't going to be on the scene, it's still exciting to see the Paramount trucks roll up on Peermont and unload props and equipment. As a reminder, parking is restricted in the area until 10 p.m. Friday. Details here. If you took photos, talked to the crew or just took a peek at the set, share your experience in the comments section!

I live on Pinehurst just down from Peermont. We were given a flyer with notice of the parking restrictions the day before Thanksgiving so a weeks notice. We were given another flyer the following week to let us know the shoot was moved back a day because of weather. I think it was really cool to have a movie shot on my block and had no problem with 2 days of not parking on the street. I even …   more ›

Movie Filming in Dormont, Parking Restrictions in Place

Parking restrictions on Pinehurst and Peermont avenues in effect through Friday.

It’ll be exciting to look down Peermont Avenue this week and see a film production crew, but a few parking restrictions are in place during the filming. Parking restrictions will last from 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) through 10 p.m. Friday. There will be no parking on Pinehurst Avenue from Biltmore to Peermont, and no parking on either side of Peermont from West Liberty Avenue to Latonia Avenue. Scenes for the movie “One Shot,” featuring Tom Cruise, will be shot in Dormont this week. “There’s adequate parking in the area in the various lots and on the street,” said Dormont police Chief Rich Dwyer. “People should be okay, but we’ve eased the tagging restrictions in those areas.” Dwyer said during the restriction period, officers will be more …

From the photo, it looks like Pinehurst near Biltmore. Our house was 3 doors up on Biltmore. Times change but the old neighborhood still looks the same as it did in 60's & 70's.   more ›
