People lined the streets Monday morning for the 79th annual South Hills Memorial Day Parade. The parade was dedicated to James A. Robinson of Dormont, a veteran of World War II. Dormont Elementary students, local cub scout and girl scout packs, the Dormont Main Street Association, marching bands from Seton LaSalle and Mt. Lebanon, the Dormont Historical Society, Dormont Day Committee, Brookline Dance Studio, Brookline Meals on Wheels, the Brookline American Legion and many more were involved in making the parade an exciting and memorable event for the families in attendance. A Patch blogger attended the dedication of the Mt. Lebanon Veteran's Memorial on Sunday.
The Mt. Lebanon Veteran's Memorial was dedicated Sunday evening, in one of the first ceremonies of the weekend that remembers the true meaning of Memorial Day. Temperatures will reach the high 80s and possibly the low 90s in the Pittsburgh region during the three-day Memorial Day holiday weekend.
The forecast for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend can be summed up with three words: Hot, hot and hot! Temperatures will reach the high 80s and possibly the low 90s in the Pittsburgh region during the three-day holiday weekend. Dennis Sims, a meteorologist with Bridgeville-based Air Science Consultants, said that warm weather could trigger a few afternoon or evening thunderstorms, although he expected most storms to stay north of Interstate 80 near Erie. He said lots of sunshine and a high-pressure system that will be sitting over the region through Monday brings the “ever-present threat” of showers. “But most of the time, it will be on the dry side and hot,” Sims said. The Port Authority of Allegheny County's bus, T and incline service will operate on holiday schedules for Memorial Day, this Monday, May 28. Port Authority's Customer Service phone line will hold holiday hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Downtown Service Center will be closed on Memorial Day. Light rail service will operate as two-car trains throughout much of the weekend due to the Pirates home games. Extra T service and subway local service will be added for high-attendance games.
