What's One Small Business You Can't Live Without?

I asked this question on the Dormont-Brookline Patch Facebook page, and the response was great. See what people said.

Move over Halloween and Thanksgiving—it's Oct. 28, and I'm already seeing advertisements for Black Friday sales. But in my opinion, the day after Black Friday is much, much more important. That day is Small Business Saturday, the day we celebrate local small businesses and their contributions to the community. We're lucky, in Dormont and Brookline, to have thriving business districts full of small businesses. Yesterday on the Dormont-Brookline Patch Facebook page, I asked you to name one small business you can't live without, and the response was great! The local watering holes are favorites, and Cain's Saloon and Cip's Sports Bar made the list. Local restaurants It's Greek to Me, Don Campiti's, The DorStop, MeKong, Dormont Dogs, Pitaland …

Spice Up Your Valentine Weekend in Brookline and Beechview

Two Valentine-themed events make the perfect dates for foodie couples.

If you and your sweetheart are foodies, Saturday could be a busy day for you. Starting at Pita Land in Brookline at 10:30 a.m., the Burgh Bits and Bites Food Tour will host a buy one, get one free food tour. Stops typically include Greek specialties at It's Greek to Me, soft pretzels at Vinnie's Pretzel Shop, a look at how pitas are made at Pita Land, and sweet treats Kribel's Bakery. Tickets must be bought in advance. Information is available on the Burgh Bits and Bites website by clicking here. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, IGA Market in Beechview will host a “Red Hot Valentine” Pepper Party. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste hot peppers and other spicy dishes.
