Description of Man Allegedly Breaking Into Dormont Cars

Witnesses gave Dormont police a description of a man who was allegedly seen breaking into cars in the borough.

Dormont police are searching for a man allegedly seen breaking into cars in the borough on Nov. 1. Police received reports from witnesses who said a man was seen breaking into cars in the 1300 block of Illinois Avenue around 11:30 p.m. The man is described as a white male, about 5'10" with a thin build and a dark goatee. Dormont police Sgt. Ralf Zawischa advised residents to keep their cars locked, and keep valuables out of sight. Those with information can contact Dormont police at 412-561-8900, ext. 300. Also in the blotter: Three juveniles have been charged with criminal mischief for damaging the concession stand at Beggs Snyder Park. Dormont Woman Robbed, Police Look for Suspects

Police are looking for two men who shoved a Dormont woman to the ground and robbed her on July 31.

Dormont police are looking for two men who robbed a woman on Illinois Avenue on July 31. A 58-year-old woman was walking near the intersection of Illinois and Belplain avenues at 10:25 p.m. when two men approached her from behind, pushed her to the ground and stole her purse. The men ran from the scene. A witness chased the men, but lost sight of them near Tennessee Avenue. The purse was found by a resident in the 1300 block Tennessee Avenue on Aug. 1, but the men have not been arrested. Both suspects are described as black males in their late teens with slender builds. One was described as having a bald head, and was wearing a gray sleeveless shirt. Those with information are asked to call the Dormont police at 412-561-8900, ext. 300. …

Scammers Hit Homes in Dormont, Swissvale

Reports of people burglarizing homes after telling the owners they are with various companies have been made in Dormont and Swissvale.

It’s becoming a familiar story—people going door-to-door, participating in a scam situation in which they say they’re with an organization to gain access to your property. Dormont police are investigating one of these situations, which occurred Thursday morning and resulted in the burglary of a home in the 1300 block of Illinois Avenue. Shortly after 10 a.m. on Thursday, an elderly couple called Dormont police to report their home had been burglarized. The couple told police a man they described as being Mexican-American came to their home and said he was a property assessment officer from Allegheny County. The man told police the suspect took him to the back of the home to talk about his car, and left after a discussion that lasted about …
