Dormont Elementary Receives $5,000 Grant

Aiken Elementary School in Green Tree received the same grant, for the same amount, from the H.J. Heinz Company Foundation to support the Fuel Up to Play 60 program.

Dormont Elementary School and Fred L. Aiken Elementary School are the recipients of a grant for $5,000 to each school, from the H.J. Heinz Company Foundation to support its Fuel Up to Play 60 program. Fuel Up to Play 60 encourages students to eat healthy foods and engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. The student-led program was created by the National Dairy Council and the National Football League to encourage students to make healthy lifestyle changes at school. It is sponsored locally by the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association. This is first time Dormont Elementary has participated in the program. The grant money will be used to create a new fitness room, where students can get a full workout regardless of the weather…

Brookline SPDC Awarded $25,000 Grant

SPDC will use the grant for a marketing study of Brookline Boulevard.

A grant award to Brookline’s South Pittsburgh Development Corporation will help the organization fund a study of the neighborhood’s small business district, and how it can be improved. The $25,000 grant was awarded by the Design Center of Pittsburgh, which on Tuesday awarded $275,000 to 12 neighborhood revitalization projects. “SPDC decided on a marketing study on how to market Brookline Boulevard, and attract people to Brookline Boulevard,” said SPDC member Jennifer Grab. Grab said SPDC hopes the grant will help the neighborhood form solid goals and realistic community projects that will grow the business district and attract both visitors and residents to Brookline.
