Residents Evacuated from Apt. Building After Gas Leak

A gas leak at a Voelkel Avenue apartment building in Dormont is under control.

A gas leak reported at a Voelkel Avenue apartment building is under control, but crews are still conducting tests and residents still are not allowed back in the apartment building. The leak was reported at 2900 Voelkel Avenue, the six-unit apartment building at the corner of Voelkel and Potomac avenues, around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Dormont Volunteer Fire Department Captain Jeff Stakich told Dormont-Brookline Patch the leak occurred in the basement of the apartment building, and that crews initially had trouble stopping the leak. He said it was unclear whether that was due to the cold or to old pipes. UPDATE: Crews Unable to Stop Gas Leak on Voelkel Avenue

A gas leak has been reported on Voelkel Avenue in Dormont.

A gas leak has been reported on Voelkel Avenue in Dormont. According to U.S. Emergency Alerts, local emergency crews, including the Dormont Volunteer Fire Department, were dispatched to 2900 Voelkel Avenue for a report of gas leak that crews are unable to control. Lt. Jim Medsger of Dormont VFD said the leak occurred in the basement of the multi-unit apartment building on the corner of Voelkel and Potomac avenues. The building includes about six apartments, possibly more, and residents are currently being evacuated onto a bus owned by the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department to keep warm.
