The cause of last week’s fire in the 3200 block of West Liberty Avenue has not been determined.
A week after a fire damaged several buildings in the 3200 block of West Liberty Avenue, there still aren't a lot of clues as to what started the flames. Jeff Arnold, deputy chief of the Dormont Volunteer Fire Department, said they were able to rule out some scenarios, but are still investigating the cause of the March 13 fire. “It wasn’t electrical,” Arnold said. “They could pinpoint the origin of where it started, but they can’t pinpoint what it was.” Arnold said the fire ignited at the back of the building at 3227 West Liberty Ave, in a second-floor apartment. No injuries were reported in a fire that occurred in the 3200 block of West Liberty Avenue on Tuesday night, but several tenants of the building were displaced. The fire started around 8 p.m. at 3227 West Liberty Ave., and affected several units in the three-story row building. Paula Scarpaci, who has lived in the building for four years, said she was driving home when a neighbor called to tell her about the fire. She said it was upsetting to come home to a street full of fire trucks and realize her apartment, and so many others, were affected. “I have family and friends to stay with but I don’t know about everyone here,” she said. Four local fire departments responded to a fire that broke out in the 3200 block of West Liberty Avenue around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Four local fire departments responded to a blaze that affected several buildings in the 3200 block of West Liberty Avenue in Dormont on Tuesday night. Dormont Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dennis Davis said the fire started around 8 p.m., and affected the businesses and apartments in the three-story row building between 3223 and 3229 West Liberty Ave. The fire started in the back of the section that houses AllState Insurance, and quickly spread up the back of the building and past the third floor, he said. Enja Computers and Xie LiHong's Wellness Center also are located in the building. The fire actually happened in the portion of the building to the left of where the new restaurant is opening. I don't know yet if that will affect its opening.   more ›
