New “shop local” program give you benefits for shopping on Brookline Boulevard.
“As sure as night is dark and day is light I keep you on my mind both day and night And happiness I've known proves that it's right …” Because You’re Mine, I Shop the Line. In the vein of Johnny Cash’s famous tune, Brookline’s new "shop local" program is designed to keep minds on something the community holds dear: its business district. The “Because You’re Mine, I Shop the Line” program is a shopper reward program that awards a cash-equal benefit for shopping at Brookline businesses. The program is a way to encourage shopping locally at small business, as well as a way to unify Brookline’s business district, said Nathan Mallory, who owns Cannon Coffee on Brookline Boulevard and is a member of the Brookline Chamber of Commerce. “This is …

Volunteers with Energize Brookline were busy Monday evening working on their second project for the community. The first was the "Because You're Mine, I Walk the 'Line" Brookline bar tour on Friday, which about 120 people attended, and which the volunteers said was highly successful. Their second project is a product of the first—about a third of the $970 raised by the bar crawl was used to buy flowers and other planting materials to improve the garden space at Cannon Park. The group plans to help the VFW maintain the park throughout the season. With the remaining money from the bar crawl, the group plans to buy fertilizer to keep the gardens fresh. The next Energize Brookline project is Sunday morning. Volunteers are invited to meet at …

Brookline’s new community group isn’t about meetings or regulations or subcommittees—it’s about getting involved. After several weeks of talking, Energize Brookline officially came together in just a few days, with a core group of volunteers who want to encourage others in the community to volunteer and take on projects for the betterment of Brookline. “We want to highlight the things that are already here in Brookline,” said Jennifer Grab, an Energize organizer. “A lot of the young people here are going to other neighborhoods to hang out. We all live in Brookline, and we want to make this the place where we do that.” Grab said the new organization is more about getting involved than anything else. The purpose is simply to “energize” …
