Dormont Blotter Jan. 11 to Jan. 18.
Dormont police are investigating a “snatch-and-grab” robbery at CVS Pharmacy on West Liberty Avenue. According to the police report, a man walked into CVS Pharmacy at 8:23 p.m. on Jan. 15, stole cartons of cigarettes valuing $240, and ran from the store. The man is described as a white male about six feet tall. Police were able to get surveillance video from the store, and are investigating the incident. No arrests had been made, as of Friday, Jan. 18. Dormont police blotter, Jan. 4 to Jan. 11.
Charges are pending against three teenagers who allegedly stole DVDs from Dormont Public Library, then tried to pawn them for cash. On Jan. 8, library employees reported to Dormont police that a number of DVDs had been stolen from the shelves. Police determined that the DVDs had been sold to MIB Entertainment on West Liberty Avenue, and identified the three teenagers who had pawned them. Library Director Cindy D'Agostino said the items have not yet been returned to the library. The teens have not yet been charged. Dormont police Sgt. James Briglia said the investigation is ongoing and possible charges and restitution are pending. Dormont blotter, Dec. 28 to Jan. 4.
A man was arrested on numerous charges after he first called the police for assistance, then allegedly refused to let them help. According to the report by Dormont police, Austin Deaver, 27, of Dormont called police at 12:15 a.m. on Jan. 1 and reported that his girlfriend was unconscious at his apartment in the 3200 block of West Liberty Avenue and needed help. Police said when they arrived at the apartment, they found a bong-type device. At that point, according to the police report, Deaver told the police to leave the apartment and attempted to physically stop the police from getting to the woman.
