Roads Worsen in Dormont, Brookline Area as Snow Falls

Roads are getting slick, and we're expected to see snowfall for the next several hours.

As snow continues to fall Friday morning, roads are getting worse and traffic is slowing down on West Liberty Avenue. Roads are mostly slushy, as of 11 a.m., but are slick in some spots. The snow is making is difficult to see center lines on the road. Dormont police Sgt. Jim Briglia advised drivers to be careful. "It's getting a little tricky out there," he said. "Our street department is out now." An accident on McFarland Road in Dormont was reported Friday morning around 10:30 a.m. No injuries were reported. Highway accidents have been reported as well. Canon-McMillan Patch reported a multi-vehicle accident on I-79 southbound near the Canonsburg exit just after 10 a.m., and Chartiers Valley Patch reported that traffic is moving slowly …

I was on many main roads during the snow yesterday: Clifton, 88/Brownsville around S. Park, Curry Hollow, Rt. 51, Rt. 88, & McNeilly. Took 2 1/2 hours. The 1st road I could actually SEE was W. Liberty - great job Dormont :)   more ›

Dormont Street Dept. Picking Up Christmas Trees

The Dormont Borough Street Department will pick up Christmas Trees through Jan. 11.

Wondering what to do with the Christmas tree now that the holiday season has (unfortunately) come to a close? The Dormont Borough Street Department will pick up Christmas trees for recycling through Friday, Jan. 11. To have a tree picked up, residents should place trees at the curb after all tinsel and ornaments have been removed. The trees will be picked up and put through a chipper. The mulch will be made available to residents near the salt pile or the pool parking lot. Due to its high acidity, the mulch is recommended for use around evergreens only and is not suggested for flowers or gardens. In the event of a large snowfall, trees will be picked up by the borough as soon as possible. After Jan. 11, residents can put trees out with …

Notice Anything About the Parking Meters?

Many of Dormont's parking meters aren't functioning today. Here's why!

How many of you walked up to a parking meter in Dormont today, only to find there was nowhere to put your money? On Wednesday only, ticketing at parking meters is suspended so that a crew from Allegheny County can inspect the meter heads, make sure they're all working correctly, and replace the ones that aren't. Dormont Borough's street department was out and about Wednesday removing the inner-workings of the parking meters and taking them to the borough garage for inspection. Borough manager Jeff Naftal said the inspection is performed once a year on meters throughout the borough. Teens Cited for Spray Painting Borough Property

Dormont police blotter, Aug. 17 to Aug. 24.

Three teens were arrested and four more were issued warnings for spray painting graffiti on the walls of the Dormont Street Department Building on Tennessee Avenue. Dormont police responded to a report of teens spray painting the building just after 8 p.m. on Aug. 22. 8:02 p.m. According to the police report, officers could smell burnt marijuana at the scene, and found the group of teens behind the building. A marijuana cigarette was found near the group. Two teens were arrested, issued disorderly conduct citations and released to the custody of their parents.
