Three incidents, two of them related, were reported at the bar between April 27 and 28.
Dormont police responded to multiple incidents at Vasta Lounge on West Liberty Avenue between April 27 and April 28. Officers on patrol in the area at 2:15 a.m. on April 27 saw a fight in front of the bar. Two men—identified as Shandrew Vaughn, 35, of Pittsburgh and Carlies Womack, 34, also of Pittsburgh—were arrested after police said they refused to leave the scene, and yelled obscenities at officers. According to the police reports, Vaughn attempted to start fights with bar patrons while in the presence of police. He was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. Womack was cited for public drunkenness. Dormont police blotter, April 12 to April 19.
Dormont police are investigating a theft-from-vehicle case that occurred in the 1200 block of Wisconsin Avenue. According to the police report, a car was parked on a parking pad in that block when someone stole a backpack containing a laptop computer from inside the car. The owner told police the theft likely occurred between 11 p.m. on April 13 and 11 a.m. on April 14. Police Chief Michael Bisignani told Dormont-Brookline Patch the number of theft-from-vehicle cases typically increases when the weather improves, and warned that residents should be careful to keep vehicles locked. What started as a neighbor dispute ended with two people facing charges—one of whom was Tased when he physically fought police. Dormont police were dispatched to an apartment building in the 2800 block of West Liberty Avenue at 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 28 for a report of two people yelling racial slurs at a woman who lived in the building. Police said Trina Stasik, 24, of Beechview, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct when she refused to go inside her brother’s apartment and continued yelling racial slurs at a neighbor. Police also were in the process of arresting brother, 26-year-old Jesse Pfister, for the same offense when he began to physically fight the officers. A preliminary hearing will be held this week for a man who threatened to kill employees at MIB Entertainment.
A Dormont man is awaiting his preliminary hearing in Allegheny County Jail after he threatened to kill employees inside MIB Entertainment on West Liberty Avenue last week. Dormont police came to the store just after 5 p.m. on Aug. 20, when the owner called to report that an apparently intoxicated man—identified as Michael Mann, 42, of Dormont—came into the store trying to sell speakers and other equipment. Mann was asked to return when he was sober, and then began threatening to kill the owner and other store employees, according to the police report.
