Wondering what to do with the Christmas tree now that the holiday season has (unfortunately) come to a close? The Dormont Borough Street Department will pick up Christmas trees for recycling through Friday, Jan. 11. To have a tree picked up, residents should place trees at the curb after all tinsel and ornaments have been removed. The trees will be picked up and put through a chipper. The mulch will be made available to residents near the salt pile or the pool parking lot. Due to its high acidity, the mulch is recommended for use around evergreens only and is not suggested for flowers or gardens. Allegheny County's fifth annual Christmas tree recycling program will run through Saturday, Jan. 19 at all nine regional parks. County residents may drop off trees from dawn to dusk daily. All lights, decorations, tinsel and stands must be removed from trees. The trees will be turned into mulch for use in Allegheny County’s nine regional parks.
