Brookline Scouts Hold Food Drive

Church of the Resurrection will serve as a collection site for the Brookline Christian Food Pantry.

Cub Scout Pack 601 is holding a food drive to help stock the Brookline Christian Food Pantry. From 7 - 8 p.m. every Tuesday, the group will accept food donations during its mettings. On Tuesday, Nov. 1, the scouts will meet in the Garden Room at Church of the Resurrection, but typically mettings are held in the church's Quinn Hall. Additionally, the pack will accept donations during its Pancake Breakfast fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, at Church of the Resurrection.

Labor Day Is Done

Boy Scout Troop 23 retires the colors as dusk falls in Dormont.

These Boy Scouts from Troop 23 take down the flag from Dormont's Labor Day observance as dusk falls on Monday. Every year, troop members put the flags up at 7 a.m. on Labor Day, then remove them when day is done.

Another thing you should try to find out is if this is also the same troop who puts flags on all the graves of our Great Veterans at Mt.Lebanon Cemetery on Memorial Day. If so they should be praised for that too because it is not an easy job. Their efforts are much appreciated by those of us with friends and relative Veterans resting there.   more ›

Dormont Scout Troop Spaghetti Fundraiser Nets $1,250

Dormont Boy Scout Troop 23 hosted its most successful spaghetti dinner fundraiser to day. More than 200 people attended.

Dormont Boy Scout Troop 23 hosted its most successful spaghetti dinner fundraiser, feeding 227 guests and raising $1,250, according to Patty Costantini, the troop’s activities coordinator. The dinner was held Jan. 22 at Dormont United Methodist Church. "From what long-time scouters tell me, we've never had over 200 people. We ran out of printed tickets, and we were writing tickets on sheets of paper at the door," Costantini said. Costantino said it was good to see Mayor Thomas Lloyd and councilmen John Maggio and Drew Lehman. "All three are spaghetti dinner regulars, and we appreciate their support," she said.
