New “shop local” program give you benefits for shopping on Brookline Boulevard.

In the vein of Johnny Cash’s famous tune, Brookline’s new "shop local" program is designed to keep minds on something the community holds dear: its business district. The “Because You’re Mine, I Shop the Line” program is a shopper reward program that awards a cash-equal benefit for shopping at Brookline businesses. Brookline is the first community to receive a new grant focused on small business districts.
A new grant will help Pittsburgh neighborhoods support their business districts, and Brookline is the first to receive it. The “Biz Buzz” program, funded by the Urban Redevelopment Authority, is a small-grant program that will fund marketing projects and other activities designed to attract people to the city’s small-business districts. City of Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl presented the grant award to the Brookline Chamber of Commerce Wednesday afternoon, in front of Cannon Coffee on Brookline Boulevard. “Our hope is to point to success stories in these communities, and then hopefully expand the program,” Ravenstahl said after the presentation. “This isn’t a large sum of money, but it is important to these communities. Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl visited Brookline today to present a grant that will help small businesses.
Brookline was buzzing Wednesday afternoon when City of Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, along with local business owners, residents and city officials gathered to kick off the Pittsburgh "Biz Buzz" program. Ravenstahl spoke outside of Cannon Coffee Wednesday, and presented members of the Brookline Chamber of Commerce with a $2,500 check to help the organization start the "Because You're Mine, I Shop the Line" program. The grant was provided by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. It will be used in Brookline to support Boulevard Bucks, a shopper reward program that offers benefits for shopping at Brookline businesses.
