Six Thefts Reported May 5 in Banksville

Pittsburgh police are warning residents to keep cars locked and remove valuables from sight after several thefts in the area.

Following several theft-from-vehicle reports in the Banksville and Beechview neighborhoods, Pittsburgh police are warning residents to lock their cars, and to remove or hide valuable items from sight when cars are left unattended. On May 2, a license place was reported stolen from a vehicle parked near Hampshire and Cape May avenues in Beechview. The following thefts occurred overnight between May 4 and May 5 in Banksville: Those with information can contact Pittsburgh Police Zone 6 detectives. Volunteers Needed to Plant Western PA Conservancy Community Gardens

The work of more than 13,000 volunteers from neighborhoods, schools, businesses and organizations have made it possible for communities in 20 counties to enjoy 135 gardens.

While driving in the region, have you noticed the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy's community gardens? These gardens, which are planted by volunteers each spring, including the ones in the Dormont-Brookline area, have helped to beautify the region. According to the conservancy's website, corporate and organizational sponsorships and the work of more than 13,000 volunteers from neighborhoods, schools, businesses and other organizations have made it possible for communities in 20 counties to enjoy 135 gardens. Volunteers are needed to help with this spring's community flower garden planting. Three Arrested for Drug, Prostitution-Related Charges

Pittsburgh Zone 6 police blotter, April 1 to April 7.

Three people were arrested April 2 in the 2800 block of Banksville Road in Banksville for drug and prostitution-related charges. Vice detectives arrested Aubrey Hammonds of Buffalo, New York for prostitution and possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance. The same evening, Kurtis Houston, also of Buffalo, New York, was arrested for prostitution-related offenses and possession of marijuana. Joshua Moore of Rochester, Pa. also was arrested for possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance. As of April 8, Hammonds and Houston are being held in Allegheny County Jail. Two Arrested for GPS Thefts

Two people were arrested for allegedly breaking into cars in the Banksville area and stealing GPS units.

Two people were arrested Monday for allegedly breaking into unlocked cars in the area and stealing various items, mainly, GPS units. Police arrested Scott Richard Lazor of Imperial, and Crystal Lee Mros, of Clinton, on Greentree Road. Pittsburgh police had initially responded to the 2300 block of Rosegarden Road in Banksville for a resident's report of suspicious people in dark clothing who were carrying backpacks and looking into car windows. According to the police report, the two had stolen a GPS until from a vehicle in the area. The GPS was returned to its owner. Lazor was charged with theft from a motor vehicle, and with loitering and prowling at night. He is being held in Allegheny County Jail, according to court dockets. A …

Five thefts occurred in the Banksville area—three on Potomac Avenue, near the Dormont border—between March 4 and March 10. Pittsburgh Police report that all thefts occurred from unlocked vehicles, and several GPS units were stolen. Four Arrested for Heroin Possession in Banksville

Brookline, Beechview police blotter, Feb. 18 to Feb. 24.

Pittsburgh police arrested four people, including one juvenile, in Banksville last week for possession of heroin. The arrests were made Feb. 19 in the 2800 block of Banksville Road. Narcotics detectives arrested Anthony Dorsey of the Hill District, Erin Proctor of Baldwin, and a juvenile male, who each were charged with possession with the intent to deliver. According to the police report, a Wilkinsburg man also was arrested and charged, but the court docket for those charges was not available as of Tuesday morning. As for the heroin thing, that's also, unfortunately, a problem everywhere. It still blows my mind that it's cheaper than marijuana these days--that's why it's become such an epidemic. How is a drug that takes so much time and effort to obtain, refine, and process cheaper than a plant people can grow in their basement with sun lamps??   more ›
