PennDOT is delaying the construction work on Banksville Road in Dormont until next week.

PennDOT is delaying the construction work on Banksville Road until next week. The work was scheduled to begin Thursday morning and continue through Monday, but rain showers in the Pittsburgh area pushed construction back a few days. Construction is now expected to begin Monday and continue until Wednesday night. Crews plan to install crosswalk markings at various intersections and pave Helen Street at the intersection with Banksville Road. The northbound lanes of Banksville Road will be restricted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The southbound lanes will be under construction from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the three days of work. Mystery Solved: Containers Were Septic Tanks

The five containers buried under the Dormont Pool parking lot used to be septic tanks, and all are being repaired.

The mystery of the five containers buried under the Dormont Pool parking lot has been solved. The containers were once septic tanks, although borough manager Jeff Naftal said they don’t appear to have been in use for more than 75 years. “We know what they are,” Naftal said. “We’re certain they were septic tanks, but we don’t know what they served.” The Allegheny County Public Works Department sent the borough plans that cleared up the issue, Naftal said. The plans also included instructions for a contractor to remove the lids of those tanks and fill them. “Of course, not only did we find five tanks …

Police Offer Reward for Rite Aid Robbery Suspect

Pittsburgh Police are searching for a man who robbed the Banksville Road Rite Aid earlier this month.

A Rite Aid employee might have stopped a robbery, but Pittsburgh Police still are searching for the suspect—and they're offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Police responded to the Rite Aid on Banksville Road at 1:40 a.m. on Feb. 6 for a report of a robbery. A store employee told police a white male entered Rite Aid just after 1:30 a.m., but left quickly without buying anything. He then went outside and got into a large, silver sedan, possibly a Grand Marquis or Crown Victoria, being driven by a black male. When the employee went out and asked if they needed help, the black male reportedly said, "No we’re ok. You still open?" The employee said yes and went back into the store, according to police. A few minutes …
