Dormont police blotter, Jan. 18 to Jan 25.
Dormont police have charged a Pittsburgh man for a robbery last week at the CVS Pharmacy on West Liberty Avenue. Sherman Jones, 35, with a last-known address in the City of Pittsburgh, was charged with retail theft. Police said he stole $240 worth of cigarettes from CVS in a smash-and-grab-type robbery. Dormont Sgt. Jim Briglia said the Dormont police were able to work with police in McCandless Township to find Jones. According to the police report, McCandless Township police informed Dormont police earlier this week that Jones had been arrested for committing a similar robbery at a CVS Pharmacy in the North Hills area. Jones already was being held in Allegheny County Jail on those charges, and was given notice of the additional charges …

Two people face charges in connection with a Sept. 7 fight at Vasta on West Liberty Avenue. Andrew Bracken, 24, of Pittsburgh and Charles Bracken, 47, of Baldwin, were charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct. Dormont police were dispatched to the West Liberty Avenue bar just before 2 a.m. Sept. 7 for a report of a fight between two groups of people. According to the police report, the men walked into Vasta and began yelling racial slurs at a couple sitting at the bar, then assaulted both people. At the time, witnesses were unable to give statements in support of either group, according to the report. Police reviewed surveillance tape from inside the bar, which led to the arrests. Dormont police blotter, Aug. 17 to Aug. 24.
Three teens were arrested and four more were issued warnings for spray painting graffiti on the walls of the Dormont Street Department Building on Tennessee Avenue. Dormont police responded to a report of teens spray painting the building just after 8 p.m. on Aug. 22. 8:02 p.m. According to the police report, officers could smell burnt marijuana at the scene, and found the group of teens behind the building. A marijuana cigarette was found near the group. Two teens were arrested, issued disorderly conduct citations and released to the custody of their parents. Dormont residents can have a few drinks for a cause this Saturday.
Local bars have partnered with Yuengling to start what they hope will become a new barcrawl tradition in Dormont, in the name of honoring our policemen and firefighters. The pub crawl will start on July 21 at 5 p.m. and includes these locations: Breakers, Jamison's, Mexi Casa, Cips, Slap Shots, The Apple, Albert's, and Cain’s Saloon. Yuengling donated 500 shirts for the “Bars and Stripes” pub tour that will cost $15 at any of the participating bars. All proceeds go to the police and fire departments. Anyone wearing a “Bars and Stripes” t-shirt will get $2 drafts of Yuengling and Yuengling Lite all night.
