Patch Pets: Meet Draco

Help Draco find a new home.

Draco is a 5-year-old Rottweiler in need of a new home after a rough couple of weeks.  After recently being adopted, the new owners said he didn't get along with their existing dog, so he was taken back to the Animal Rescue League. Draco lived with kids in his former home and was very good with them, tending to be a little protective of them, which is typical of the breed. He also lived with cats with no reported problems. Draco is generally friendly toward other dogs, but we feel he'd probably do best being adopted as a solo dog. He's well-behaved indoors and was not crated in his former home. Draco knows all the basic commands and also rides well in the car. While he certainly enjoys romping outside, chasing balls, and playing with his …

Patch Pets: Meet Duke

This German Shepherd mix at the Animal Rescue League could use a forever home.

Come meet the Duke at the Animal Rescue League. He's a 2-year-old German Shepherd mix who weighs in at about 65 pounds. Duke arrived as a stray and is friendly and responsive to attention. He loves to play ball and is very affectionate. He is a happy, upbeat guy who will make a nice companion for someone. Based on the Animal Rescue League’s observations, it seems he may be house-trained. He does pull some on leash and would no doubt benefit from some further obedience training. For inquiries about Duke, please contact his volunteer friend Ilene at RossPitt@aol.com. Come to the Animal Rescue League at 6620 Hamilton Ave. in East Liberty or call 412-661-6452 to meet any dozens of dogs and scores of cats. The shelter is open for adoptions …

Patch Pets: Meet Charlie

Can you give this handsome guy a home?

Charlie is a handsome black and white Hound mix, approximately 1 year old. He is said to be house-trained, friendly with other dogs and good with cats too (although he does enjoy chasing them.) Charlie lived with kids in a previous foster home and was friendly and playful with them. Because he has a lot of energy and youthful exuberance, older kids would be a better fit for him. He does loves chasing balls and playing with rope toys. Charlie also loves water and would enjoy field trips that included ponds, streams or lakes. Apparently he even likes baths, so should he get dirty while playing outdoors, any hose-off will be a breeze! Like a lot of younger dogs his size, Charlie will benefit from some obedience training classes. He's very …

Patch Pets: Meet Maggie

Can you give this pup a home?

Maggie is a two-month-old Alaskan Husky/Mix and was part of a litter of seven puppies. She is curious, adventuresome and ready for fun. She was fostered with her one brother, Champ. She loves the outside and the cold or rain does not bother her. Maggie is gentle and loves to sit on your lap, and she will play tug a war with anything—her rope toy is by far her favorite. She is very gentle, sweet and with training, she will make a great companion. She will be easy to train as she is attentive and will do well with a wide range of situations, though with her curiosity she will need things to interest her—people, toys, etc. She is learning the "sit" and "shake" commands. Come to the Animal Rescue League at 6620 Hamilton Ave. in East Liberty or…

Patch Pets: Meet George

Can you give George a new home?

This is George. George was originally adopted from us and then sadly, he was returned because of the health of his owner. George lived with children and a cat. George liked the children and the cat, but the cat didn't like George. George is known to be housetrained, good on the leash and loves to play with toys. His owner told us that he is a good watch dog and he also is good in the car. George came back to us with thinning fur. We are treating this condition and hopefully it will clear up soon. George is a smaller, energetic dog, with a great temperament. He will do well in many households. For more information about George, please contact his volunteer friend Laura at lauralatini54@yahoo.com. Come to the Animal Rescue League at 6620 …

Patch Pets: Meet Kya

This beauty is looking for a new home.

Kya is a beautiful 4-year-old Great Pyrenees mix who was originally surrendered to Animal Rescue League in 2010 because there were too many animals on the farm where she lived. In that home, she lived with and was very gentle with children from infants up to older children. She chased cats, however, and she doesn't like other dogs, so she'll need to be the only pet in her next home. Kya was adopted earlier this year but she was recently returned due to the arrival of a new baby in the household. These owners did praise Kya for being sweet and cuddly, in a large dog kind of way. They also indicated that she was house-trained and knows a lot of commands. She walks very well on the leash and is attentive to your voice. Kya's ideal home would …
