Ross is Dormont Mayoral Candidate, Plus New Names on KO School Board

Here are unofficial election results for Dormont Borough, Keystone Oaks School Board and City of Pittsburgh offices.

Dormont, Brookline and Keystone Oaks School District voters went to the polls on Tuesday to select the candidates who will run in the fall general election. In Dormont, former police Chief Phil Ross will run unopposed in the fall for mayor of Dormont. To see the unofficial primary election results for mayor and for Dormont Council, click here. There are a number of new names on the ballot for Keystone Oaks School Board. With the exception of incumbent Lisa Cancelliere, who is a Democrat, all other candidates cross-filed. KO Approves Proposed 2013-14 Budget

After much discussion, the Keystone Oaks School Board adopted the proposed 2013-14 budget, including a millage rate that accounts for Allegheny County property reassessments.

The Keystone Oaks School Board last week approved the proposed 2013-14 school year budget, and tentatively approved a tax rate for next year. The $35,781,146 budget includes a tax rate of 18.41 mills, but as discussion during the meeting made clear, no part of the budget—including the tax rate—is final. “While [the budget] is out for inspection, it’s going to continue to change,” said Superintendent William Stropkaj. “The millage rate is a moving target.” Allegheny County school districts are adjusting tax rates to account for the change in local property values, as a result of mandated Allegheny County property reassessments. Peduto Defeats Wagner in Democratic Mayoral Primary

William Peduto will be the Democratic candidate for Pittsburgh mayor in the fall general election.

Bill Peduto will be the Democratic candidate for Pittsburgh mayor in the fall general election after defeating Jack Wagner. Peduto garnered 52 percent of the Democratic votes to Wagner's 40 percent. The two were  predicted to be the Democratic front runners in the race. To see Peduto's victory speech on WPXI-TV, click here. Also running were Democrats Jake Wheatley, who captured 8 percent of the Democratic votes and A.J. Richardson, who got 1 percent. KO to Play Next Week for Spot in State Tournament

The Keystone Oaks Golden Eagle baseball team lost Tuesday against South Park, but the season might not be over.

The Keystone Oaks Golden Eagle baseball team lost its WPIAL AAA semi-final game Tuesday afternoon, but the season might not be over. The KO varsity boys baseball team played Tuesday against South Park, losing 1-0. However, the team will play next week—Tuesday or Wednesday—against the losing team in tonight's West Allegheny vs. Hopewell game. The winner of that game will qualify for the state tournament. Hearing for South Hills Village Bomb Scare Suspect Ends With Tears

The suspect allegedly told a Keystone Oaks High School graduate he had bomb materials in his briefcase.

The elderly man accused of causing the evacuation of South Hills Village mall last month was in tears apologizing to the judge and thanking the Bethel Park police for treating him well at the end of his preliminary hearing on Monday. District Judge Robert Wyda continued the hearing for Frank Zahler until July 1 so that behavioral health specialists could help Zahler discover the underlying cause of why he made the "callous and stupid" remarks on April 21, just days after the Boston Marathon tragedy. "What you said was clearly wrong," Wyda told Zahler. "We need to get things mentally and emotionally under control. "You need to continue to work with these people (health specialists) to help you help yourself." Zahler was handcuffed in the …

PennDOT Adds YouTube Channel

The channel complements PennDOT's social media outreach on Facebook and Twitter.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has started a YouTube channel—www.youtube.com/PennsylvaniaDOT—to expand its public outreach on safety and education initiatives as well as department operations. "Our YouTube channel is our next step in communicating with our customers in more personal, interactive ways," PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch said in a news release. "The channel is a great way to provide important information to a universal audience. I encourage people to share these resources with their family and friends or anyone who can benefit from the information."
