Volunteers Needed For Dormont Passive Park Project

DIG Dormont will be working four times at the site in the next few weeks.

If you dig the passive park at the corner of Hillsdale and West Liberty avenues, then DIG Dormont is hoping for a few residents to get out their shovels and join them.

The group is seeking volunteers for the following days:

  • Thursday, Sept. 22— 6-8 p.m. (Editor's note. This will be cancelled in the event of rain.)
  • Saturday, Sept. 24—noon to 2 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 27—6-8 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 1—noon to 2 p.m.

Work on the retaining wall at the park has finally been completed.

Over the past few months, DIG Dormont has been working with a local landscape design firm, LaQuatra Bonci, on a park scheme. The plans take into account the projected parking area adjacent to the park.

The group is contracting with a local landscaper to purchase and install trees and planting material for the green space. Money donated for the cause will be used to pay for the trees, planting material and the actual labor.

Over the next few weeks, volunteers will be at the site weeding and preparing for the planting. More volunteers are needed to help with the beautifiation of the perimeter of the park.

Those who can help are asked to bring gloves, shovels, clippers, and lawn and leaf bags.

A DIG representative will be on hand each weeding day. Those who donate time and energy will receive a complimentary coupon to for $5 off a food purchase during the upcoming Tree Hugger event on Oct. 15.
