Dormont Elementary School Art Show To Benefit Red Cross Japan Fund

The parent faculty organization organized an art show and bake sale to raise money for the Red Cross's fund for the Japan earthquake and tsunami.

After the tsunami and earthquake rocked Japan, Shannon McGee, a member of the parent-faculty organization knew students would want to help, but she wanted to do something more than simply have them collect money.

"I was thinking about what can we do to raise money and get kids involved," she said.

“I thought it would be so awesome to get the kids involved and make art," she said.

She came up with the idea for an art show. It will be held Wednesday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dormont Elementary  cafeteria.

Students have been making masks and ceramics, she said. Baked goods will also be for sale and face painting and origami will be offered.

"I hope it raises a lot of money, because they sure need our help," McGee said.
