George "The Animal" Steele Returns To PGH With Books At KSWA Wrestling Saturday

By Thomas Leturgey

Earlier this year, Jim Myers, a.k.a. George “The Animal” Steele met fans—new and old alike—at Horror Realm in Pittsburgh’s South Hills. Now he returns with his self-titled autobiography to the Home of Professional Wrestling in Pittsburgh, the KSWA Arena in Lawrenceville.

“Animal” chronicles Myers’ early life from battling dyslexia to sports success. It was an injury that kept him from playing college football in Michigan, and turned his attention to academics. Myers graduated and became a respected teacher and coach. Because he wanted to make more money to support his family, Myers branched out to professional wrestling. One opportunity led to Myers becoming a masked “Student” and wrestling without the benefit of being recognized.

It wasn’t until he came to Pittsburgh that Myers found bigger success. Recruited by Bruno Sammartino and “renamed” in part by “Jumpin’” Johnny DeFazio, Myers forever became known as George “The Animal” Steele. Originally a mindless, mean villain, “The Animal” became one of the most beloved wrestlers ever with a back full of hair, bald head and green tongue. His feud with Randy “Macho Man” Savage over the beautiful Miss Elizabeth was legendary to wrestling fans.

Long retired from the ring, “The Animal” visits wrestling hot beds like Pittsburgh to greet fans and take pictures. Now he brings his autobiography, which reviewers have called “Inspirational” and “intriguing” among other accolades. He will be selling the book and signing autographs for all at “When Worlds Collide” on Saturday. Bell time is 7:30 p.m.

Myers’ appearance is also expected to be punctuated with an Allegheny County Proclamation from County Councilman Jim Burn. Burn, who often attends KSWA fundraisers in Millvale and Sharpsburg, is Chairman of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, will be on hand to give out the honor.

In addition to an appearance from George “The Animal” Steele, the KSWA has scheduled a full slate of action. KSWA World Champion “Dr. Devastation” Lou Martin will defend against Joey Quervo. Kris Kash defends the 5-Starr Champion and the Tag Team Championships are also up for grabs. Several other matches have already been announced at www.kswa.net.

The KSWA is a family-friend wrestling show where kids do get fired up. For more information, go to www.kswa.net.
