My Thoughts in General

I've been an active participant in Brookline, as a volunteer, for about 30 years. The last 20 years I was seriously involved with South Pittsburgh Development Corporation(SPDC) and was one of it's founding Fathers. I also, after we were incorporated, served as it's first President. At one point I also served as an officer and board member of the Brookline Chamber of Commerce. So I'm no newcomer to our communities problems and it's history. Recently another blogger has been complaining about certain conditions that he feels need to change in order for him to continue to live here. He makes some good points and I'm sure others can sympathize with his plight, however he just wants to dictate what should be done without any participation on his part! He rather blames, his perceived downfalls of the community, on the "older population" while he turns a blind eye to the young and old who are working together at SPDC to make Brookline better. The Politicians want to help but they need direction from the community to guide them. This takes strong community groups with the will and a large group of volunteer members to help. What I've learned over the years has taught me that there are no "quick fixes" to improving a community. Even when a problem looks "straight forward" to address, it isn't! So if you want change you need to "step up" and help. The most common comment I've heard over the years is "they should do something about this!" THE THEY ARE YOU AND I..................... I'd appreciate your thoughts.
