Dormont VFD Giving Away a Hyundai Genesis

The signs are out on West Liberty Avenue, and there's less than a month left to enter the Dormont Volunteer Fire Department raffle for a new car.

This year, it's a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe parked under the tent in the Dormont Plaza parking lot.

The tent, as well as the car it shelters, have become a local symbol of summer, marking the start of the fire department's annual car raffle. The raffle is the VFD's biggest fundraiser of the year.

Tickets are just $2 each, and a drawing to choose the winner will be July 4 in Dormont Park, right after the fireworks.

As in past years, the first-place winner will have the option to take either the car or the $18,000 cash equivalent. The car was provided to the fire department by #1 Cochran, and the fire department will purchase the car for the winner.

The second-place winner will receive $2,000 and the third-place winner will receive $1,000.

This year, the VFD also is selling t-shirts for $5 each. Those who purchase two books of tickets will receive a free t-shirt.

Proceeds from ticket sales help the fire department pay for the things they need to keep residents—and themselves—safe: new safety gear, equipment, insurance and training courses.

Members of the fire department are selling tickets in the Dormont Village parking lot from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.

Winners do not have to attend the July 4th festivities in order to win. The contest is open to residents outside of Dormont.
