“While we are excited for Dr. French’s new opportunity as superintendent, we are sad to see her leave,” Superintendent Linda Lane said in a statement released by the district. “Dr. French is extremely talented, and her commitment to the children of the Pittsburgh Public Schools has been unmatched. Her departure is a real loss for Pittsburgh, but we’re happy she will continue to serve children in Southwestern Pennsylvania.”

French joined PPS 1997 as a behavioral specialist, and served in various roles before becoming principal of Pittsburgh Mifflin K-8 in June 2005.

“This moment is bittersweet. While I look forward to the opportunity to lead Peters Township, I’m leaving the Pittsburgh Public Schools at a time when the District is in the midst of powerful and groundbreaking reform. Serving the children and families of Pittsburgh for the past 17 years truly has been one of the great opportunities of my life,” French said, in a released statement. “I am grateful to the Board of Peters Township School District for the opportunity to serve in this new role.”
