has a new business manager, and he plans to start April 24.
Eric Brandenburg, currently the director of business affairs for the Armstrong School District, was hired last month. He replaces Gwen Walker, who served as business manager for the Keystone Oaks School District for 17 years.
“I’ve been in touch with him and he’s very anxious to get started,” acting Superintendent Kathy Foster said at Thursday’s school board meeting.
Prior to working in the Armstrong School District, Brandenburg served as business manager with the Blackhawk, Avella Area and Southeastern Greene school districts. Before working in school finance, Brandenburg spent seven years working in accounting for the DeBartolo Corporation and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
"I have worked in a number of different settings, including several school districts, and the professionalism that everyone demonstrated as well as the obvious pride and commitment in the district really stood out to me," Brandenburg is quoted in a press release from the Keystone Oaks district. "I can't wait to become a part of the community myself."
Brandenburg holds bachelor’s degrees in accounting and business administration from Washington & Jefferson College. He has served as the president of the Southwest Regional Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials (PASBO) and is the treasurer of the men's club at Saints John and Paul Parish in Sewickley.
Brandenburg said he plans to familiarize himself with the district's financial picture, including its past several audits and its contractual commitments. Finishing the budget is one of his top priorities, he said.
Foster said Brandenburg would be provided with school district materials and information prior to his start date so that he would be familiar with the district’s financial situation before he began work.
As fiscal services director, Brandenburg will report directly to Foster until a full-time superintendent is hired. .
Brandenburg has signed a five-year contract with Keystone Oaks School District that begins in April. His salary is $96,000.
