Keystone Oaks' McCann Signs Letter Of Intent With Villanova

Matt McCann rushed for more than 3,600 yards in his career, including 1,350 last season.

Matt McCann has signed a letter of intent to attend and play football at Villanova University.

McCann played running back and middle linebacker, but will likely play defensive back for the Wildcats, according to a news release from Keystone Oaks.

"I just felt very comfortable with the players, the coaches, the university itself, and the scheme they run," McCann said in the release. "It just all felt like a perfect fit."

Coach Nick Kamberis said McCann was the most instinctive player he's had.

"His football IQ is off the charts," Kamberis said. "Sometimes it just seems like he has a sixth sense that very few others have."

The 5'-10", 195-pound McCann rushed for more than 3,600 yards in his career, including 1,350 last season with nearly eight yards per carry. He also made 24 touchdowns last season.

On the defensive side, he has more than 300 career tackles, 130 of which came last season. He also had two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

He was chosen for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Fabulous 22 team last season and named to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Terrific 25 team in the 2009 season.

McCann is the eighth Golden Eagle football player to earn a full scholarship and the second to play at Villanova.  Michael Costanzo, a 2003 graduate, started for the Wildcats from 2004-2006.
