What's Different About Your Water Bill?

If you live in Dormont, you might have noticed something missing from your water bill for November.

If you're a Dormont resident, you might have noticed something missing from your water bill for November—your sewage bill.

Beginning in November 2012, Pennsylvania American Water Company will no longer include your sewage bill on your water bill. You will be billed separately for sewage by Jordan Tax Service.

A notice informing residents of the change went out yesterday, Monday, via email. You can sign up for the Dormont Borough email list by clicking here.

It was really nice how the residents found out about this - a separate bill showed up THEN a couple days later the notice from the borough! Poor communication in this day and age is uncalled for.

Did we not just have the sewage added to the water bill a few short years ago in boroughs everywhere? And were we not told that it would save money when SOME of us saw a 100% rise or more in our total water bill, including significantly higher sewage bills for the same usage? And now we are going back, for what, another increase? This is completely out of control. We also need to legislate that sewage is no longer a lienable item. I am tired of the stories of threats by these so-called "tax services" to garnish wages and take people's homes. WE THE PEOPLE run this government not the other way around. VIVE LA TEA PARTY. Stand up and be heard.

Hi guys, I checked with Borough Manager Jeff Naftal about some of your concerns with this one. He says the change had to be made—PA American Water is no longer adding sewage bills to water bills because they have a new computer system that requires a different organization method. He says this change was not done at the request of Dormont Borough, or of any other municipality. He also said the change was noted in both the borough newsletter and the borough website before I published the notice here on Patch. Just some extra info for you to hopefully clear up concerns. Thanks!

They have known about this change for months. They discussed the need for this change at council meetings in late summer. They should have done a better job informing the community. Maybe they were too busy cancelling street cleaning...
