Valet Service To Offset Parking Shortage in Dormont

The parking shortage is a temporary result of a land swap between the borough and #1 Cochran.

Dormont Council voted on Monday to implement a temporary valet service to help offset a parking shortage in the borough.

Dormont Borough will rent 30 parking spaces from Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, available Thursday through Saturday evenings, at a cost of $1,000 per month.

The #1 Cochran Automotive Group will reimburse the borough for the full cost of renting the parking spaces.

Borough manager Jeff Naftal said the borough considered several options, including a trolley service, to offset temporary parking shortages that occurred as a result of a land swap between the borough and #1 Cochran.

#1 Cochran has completed work on a new borough-owned public parking lot on West Liberty Avenue, and the lot is now open to the public. #1 Cochran plans to complete work on a second public parking lot in April 2014.

The valet option was most affordable by several thousand dollars, Naftal said. When put into effect, drivers will be able to pull into the new parking lot on West Liberty Avenue and a valet service will park the car at the church. Pittsburgh Valet will provide the service.

A related vote—a motion to install 12-hour parking meters along West Liberty Avenue to replace the 2-hour meters currently there—was tabled until the September meeting.

Dormont-Brookline Patch will publish more details about the valet service when the service is available.
