Solicitor, Interim Manager Introduced at Dormont Meeting

The new borough solicitor and interim borough manager attended Monday's Dormont Council meeting.

“You’ll all recognize that there are a few new faces here with us tonight,” said council President Bill McCartney. “We now have a full complement.”

New borough Solicitor John Rushford, of the firm Dodaro, Matta and Cambest, attended Monday’s meeting, as did Dave Soboslay of the management firm Delta Development. Delta Development was hired as interim borough manager, and Soboslay will be the borough’s main point of contact until a permanent manager is hired.

McCartney said further discussion of both firms would be held at next week’s meeting.

  • Next week, council plans to approve two payments to the South Hills Area Council of Governments (SHACOG) for Robison Pip Cleaning Company. Councilwoman Onnie Costanzo said those items are for the preventative maintenance project for the cleaning of sanitary sewers.
  • Council plans to amend the fee schedule to make pool passes free for senior citizens age 65 and older.
  • Council plans to vote to advertise an ordinance ratifying the motion that led to the memorandum of understanding for the multi-use park proposed by the Pitcher Park Foundation also is on the agenda. Rushford said because two letters threatening legal action had been received regarding the issue, some of the discussion likely would take place during executive session. McCartney said a second legal opinion on the matter has been obtained, but council had not seen the legal opinion as of Monday evening.
  • Soboslay said the borough is eligible to apply for several grants, including grants from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Community Development Block Grants, and others specific to firefighters and law enforcement. More information on the grants would be made available to the borough, fire department and police department, he said.
