Molchany To Host Hearing On Affordable Care Act

The hearing is open to the public, and is to help clarify changes in the health care industry as a result of the Affordable Care Act.

State Rep. Erin Molchany, D-Allegheny, will hear from experts in the insurance and health care industries, nonprofits and community leaders at a public hearing on the rollout of the Affordable Care Act on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at St. Pamphilus Banquet Hall at 1000 Tropical Avenue. The hearing begins at 10 a.m.

Molchany, who requested the hearing and will serve as its co-chairwoman, is intent on clarifying the changes in the health care industry as a result of the Affordable Care Act and to provide information on the resources available to Pennsylvanians eligible for new benefits through this law.

The current hearing agenda is as follows:

  • 9 a.m.—Room Open
  • 10 a.m.—Introductions
  • 10:05 a.m.—Welcoming remarks from Molchany
  • 10:15 a.m.—Panel: What is the Affordable Care Act and how is it changing health care in our region? Speakers include Chris Hughes, Pennsylvania state director of Doctors for America; John Sawer, Allegheny County Department of Human Services; Bill McKendree, APPRISE
  • 11 a.m.—Panel: How can we help our constituents navigate the open enrollment process? Speakers include Beth Heeb, Consumer Health Coalition; Susan Kalson, Squirrel Hill Community Health Center; Holly McCullough, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh; Charity Leonette, Allegheny County Library Association.
  • 11:40 a.m.—Concluding remarks from Molchany
