Kids Health and Safety Fair in Mt. Lebanon Oct. 29

Event in nearby Mt. Lebanon will prepare families for Halloween and everyday safety.

Allegheny County and state officials will team up to present the Smith and Gastgeb Kids Health and Safety Fair on Saturday, Oct. 29, to provide information to area families in preparation for neighborhood Halloween trick-or-treat nights.

State Rep. Matt Smith, D-Allegheny, and Allegheny County Councilman Vince Gastgeb will host the fair from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Lebanon’s Public Safety Center, 555 Washington Road. The fair immediately follows Mt. Lebanon’s annual Pumpkin Patch Parade, which will begin at 11 a.m. in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery adjacent to the public safety building.

"This event is a great opportunity for children and families to get important information to stay safe and healthy," Smith said. "In this fun atmosphere, families can learn how a fire truck works, meet a police officer, and learn about pedestrian and Halloween safety among other activities."

Representatives from emergency services departments, as well as local, county and state offices, will be on-site to provide information on child health and safety to families. Candy will be available for the trick-or-treaters. The fair will also include information for parents about efforts to keep the community safe for children, and police department representatives will be available to answer questions and discuss safety issues.

"It’s always good to promote safety for youngsters, and Halloween is a time when we can really impact the mindsets of kids regarding health and safety issues,” Gastgeb said.
