is about to embark on $1.13 million in street reconstruction and storm sewer projects.

The one-block long street was built without a storm sewer and both ends of the block are higher than the middle, which leads to ice gathering in the winter.

The sewer will run down Montpelier Avenue and tie into system on Dwight Avenue, Rizza said.

The project is being funded by a $138,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency and a $117,000 Community Development Block Grant, though the borough will likely have to pay for some of the work, Rizza said.

U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy helped get funding, Rizza said.

Within a couple weeks, work should also begin on the total reconstruction of the 3200 block of Wainbell Avenue, along with storm sewer work, and the total reconstruction of the 3100 block of Gaylord Avenue.

The brick on the streets will be removed and replaced with asphalt paving. New sidewalks will also be built.

Wainbell resident Greg Sabo, a father of four, said he's pleased his street will be redone, but, he added the poor condition did help slow traffic.

"It will just look better, especially when the house is done," said Sabo, who is building a house after a fire a couple years ago destroyed his old one.

Those projects will cost $635,000, which will come from the borough’s capital fund.

Gaylord and Wainbell the two roads selected for the borough's 2011 road projects. Rizza said the borough needs to prioritize which streets need work, but said the borough has "tens of millions" of dollars in road work that needs to be done.

The borough is also spending $240,000 from its sewer fund on sewer repairs throughout the borough to comply with a consent decree between Alcosan and the EPA.

A. Merante Contracting won the bids for all the work.
